Unfortunately based on the casting and Nolan's retarded justification for said casting I'm going to preemptively rate this as dog shit, but if just a handful of people on this forum claim nope this is an incredible movie then I'll give it a watch, adjust my rating and even publicly eat crow if I turn out to be wrong.

However if the speculation about Paige actually being Achilles turns out to be true? Then there is no fucking way I'm ever watching this and anyone claiming it's a good movie is a fucking retard.

Half Star rating and it's not out yet?

Cmon guys.
If I am being served shit, I don't have to eat it to know I am being served shit.

If you want me to pay money to see a movie of "The Odyssey" then make a movie about "The Odyssey.". Not a movie of freshly ass squeezed faggot shit.

If you want to pay money for a serving of shit, have at it.

Let me guess - Odysseus will be a morally ambiguous character that will leave the viewer questioning their notion of what a hero truly is. It'll shift messaging away from Homeric values of duty and pragmatism, and reframe the ethical choices of the text in a modern context. Real attention will be given to just how much agency and strength Bronze Age slave women actually had.

Fuck yeah.

I’m wondering what translation Nolan is going for or if he uses any at the beginning. I get random book related stuff promoted in my Instagram feed and recently one surrounding the Odyssey popped up (probably due to the algorithm knowing this movie is getting promoted). A little by memory and a little by GPT-fu.

The Odyssey opens with:

Ἄνδρα μοι ἔννεπε, μοῦσα, πολύτροπον… / Tell me, Muse, of the man, (polýtropon)”

And the word “πολύτροπον” / polýtropon literally translates as many turns (poly + tropos) .

Throughout many translations scholars have approached this is different ways. Some choose to say “the man of many ways” (Lattimore), “the man of twists and turns” (Fagles), and “that man skilled in all ways of contending” (Fitzgerald). Then in 2018 the first English translation by a woman came out and Emily Wilson went with “Tell me about a complicated man.” Of course Vox, the guardian, and feminists alike all splooged over this deconstructive, modern contemporary translation. Making it “more accessible” and altering the way we view Odysseus and the role the female characters play in the Epic.

Anyways, I just found the clip interesting and had no idea these arguments existed. Could say something about Nolan’s view knowing which translation he modeled the story off of?

I made this post back in December regarding the different translations and which one Nolan was relying on for this. Did they actually confirm that the Emily Wilson version is the one he's more or less basing this around? I haven't kept up with this thread much since that post but just now saw Fogel Fogel post that Cyclops tweet.

Yeah, but that’s probably all of us at this point, who is paying to see this first day, on this forum, whose opinion you’d trust?

Cleopatra being anything other than Greek is one of the dumbest fucking things ever. Literal 50 iq mouth breathing retardation to suggest she was black. Her heritage was undeniably clear and it was greek. There where fucking Cleopatras in greece long before General Antony General Antony got mixed up with ptomelys great great great great inbred grand daughter.
