The stupidity of the entire stupid point being argued is she had NO IDEA The Odyssey existed. No one is claiming she should be 100% familiar with the source material. She said in her statement that she had zero idea that The Odyssey existed. None. That’s it. The at is profoundly stupid for a Yale Drama graduate. That someone could go through elite Western dramatic training at Yale and never even encounter Homer or The Odyssey in any meaningful way. The only thing more stupid than that is this argument and people apologizing for her stupidity.

She even says in that article that “She had performed a few monologues from Greek mythology in drama school at Yale, but was unfamiliar with the source material.” So, obviously this was part of the curriculum in some respect.

Here’s the 2025 curriculum: Acting (M.F.A. and Certificate) | Bulletin of Yale University

So given all that were supposed to believe she just had no clue this thing called The Odyssey existed… because she didn’t go to High School in the U.S. and maybe didn’t take the SAT?

okay Jan.

Yes, because it was an epic poem, not a play. Now if she was ignorant of famous Ancient Greek plays or playwrights, that would be a bigger red flag if she was majoring in film/theater studies since you would presume you would touch on that due to its foundational nature in the west in terms of plays/theater

Because there have never been any theatrical adaptations of the Odyssey, huh.

Of course there have. There has also been theatrical adaptations of Army of Darkness. It doesn't mean you're going to cover every work of fiction ever adapted into a play lol

She's black. She's got in because of DEI. It's that simple. No need for long diatribes or defending it. She's black... She got in because of white people guilt. Probably. Definitely.

No shit, just the ones that’ve had more cultural impact over the last three millenia than Evil Dead. Despite what some nerds might believe, “this is my boomstick!” isn’t gonna be a line that echoes through the ages.

And faggoty Oscar regs, not that any of us should give a shit about that but apparently Nolan does, or maybe the people producing it for him. I'm sure he's probably a producer though in some form or fashion.

Just don't watch this piece of shit, but feel free to make fun of it as much as possible, because it's going to be glorious.

Countless greek plays are adapted directly from, or expand upon the Homeric epics (Agamemnon trilogy, Ajax, etc). There is no fucking way in hell this Yale-boon is completely ignorant of Homer, The Iliad, and The Odyssey. She's being a subversive cunt. Fuck this movie and fuck Melanin of Troy.

Bro that’s impossible. She said it and #metoo dictates we must believe all women. It’s just as impossible as finding previous education acquired in a ‘transcripts’ type system. No one has advanced computers and record keeping to that level. As a Mexican, there’s no way she learned of such trifling works as Iliad and The Oddyssey. The best we can hope is that Grapes of Raff and the original Mexican work, Cantando Bajo la Ilivia helped her grow into a titan of film and knowledge. I feel like she has just based on this historically accurate mega film that will definitely make a ton of money. It just looks that good.

He looks homely and out of shape in the trailers.

Good shape for the average guy his age, maybe great shape-- but not epic Odyssey Hollywood shape.

He's bringing unbelievability to the screen. Every time i see Damon DEI aside I get a little less interested.

There is zero chance a movie with the name Christopher Nolan attached to it bombs that hard. Maybe this movie destroys his name and legacy so badly that he becomes capable of of a bomb that bad in the future but the Nigdssey will at worst "underperform", it won't outright bomb.

By all means America, please prove me wrong.
I think Hollywood may have bitten off more than what the audience will tolerate here.

Expecting that putting Nolan's name on it will overcome the 100s of millions of outraged nerdboy fans is a case of Hubris in the extreme.

You don't need a single non white person on screen to meet the Oscar diversity requirements. Given the size of his crew and the distribution company he almost certainly fulfills requirements through those two paths. See: Oppenheimer.

This is the cast he wanted.

Maybe he fired all of his dei hires behind the camera, and his banking on the diverse cast this time. Oh wait a minute, Oppenheimer himself was Jewish, so that's probably why they made the exception for not having any black people in the film. It was the appropriate subjugated subject matter.

Standards

To be eligible, studios must submit a Representation and Inclusion Entry Form (RAISE). The film must meet at least two out of the following four standards designed to encourage equitable representation on-screen, behind the camera, and within the industry:
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences +2
  • Standard A (On-Screen Representation): Features a lead or significant supporting actor from an underrepresented racial/ethnic group, or has an ensemble cast and crew where

of the cast is from at least two underrepresented groups, or centers the storyline on underrepresented groups.
  • Standard B (Creative Leadership & Crew): Department heads and key crew members are from underrepresented groups, or at least

of the overall crew is from underrepresented groups.
  • Standard C (Industry Access & Opportunities): The film's production, distribution, or financing company offers paid apprenticeships, internships, or training opportunities targeting underrepresented groups.
  • Standard D (Audience Development): The distribution or marketing team features multiple in-house senior executives belonging to at least two underrepresented groups.
