I didn’t bond well with the Epiphone Casino from 4-5 posts up. I decided to trade it in on a PRS McCarty 594. For those unfamiliar a McCarty 594 is like a modern PRS take on a ‘59 les Paul. Had all intentions of buying a solid body one but after playing the hollow body version of it I walked away with the hollow body pictures. I’m not crazy about the color but this guitar sounds fucking nuts. I’d rather have that than order the McCarty sunburst color one I want but will never get to hear before I get it.

Roommate in college had one of these. It did sound really, really good. But I didn't like the feel of it at all. It was like a baseball bat in my hands.

Yeah PRS necks took a bit for me to get used to the neck and the 10” fret radius of PRS guitars but I love them now. This guitar is very silimar to my custom 24 but has a shorter scale length.

Ordered some stuff from sweetwater a couple of months ago. Looked today. Every one of them had a 20% price increase. Not guitars. Inflation.

This dropped today.

I got an early listen of the upcoming EP a few weeks ago. Everything was stellar. Co-worker of mine takes drum lessons from Chuck Keeping and while I hated to see him leave, having Sekou back with Thornley is great as well.

Chuck is super solid, so I was bummed to see him leave but, yeah, having Sekou back is fantastic. I assume Ought to Be and Middle of Nowhere are NOT on the upcoming EP. I feel like both of those tracks were either experiments, one-offs, or, in the case of Middle of Nowhere, just some platform for Kroeger to yack his way through a song that's not 100% garbage.

Your 100% correct. Those were both recorded last summer as a one off to occupy time. Chucks on those as well. Ian had a whole different mindset going into the upcoming EPs based off what I've heard. Very much in the middle of Albatross and Beyond the Sun with MUCH better production than Beyond the Sun.

Recorded this the other day, meant to be track one / intro track to an album I'm starting to record (made up of all my favorite songs I've written in 18 years of playing)

If you could tell it was in 5/8, good job, I tried very hard to come up with a good strum pattern in 5 that "feels like 4/4" / you can actually nod your head to.

And here's a Pink Floyd cover. Note that I used a bunch of ping pong delay and split stereo double tracking, so it's ideal to listen with headphones.

My vocals need work (not sure if I need to perform better or just get better at processing them) but I'm super proud of the solo and the way I have the song flow from "Home" back to "Breathe". My concept for "On The Run" needs some work but it's functional.

The solo was done Tony Iommi style, two takes, split between the stereo channels, mostly the same but with enough differences between left and right to freshen it up a lot.

Probably the best thread to ask in --

Anyone good at playing/programming rock drums, especially if you can do odd time signatures?

A good drummer is like the only thing I lack to make good music.

That's a solid tune, man. And speaking of coincidences...I take the winters off with nothing to do, so this year I'm gonna write and record an album. Gonna redo a few tunes I've had in my back pocket for a long time and have about 30 other ideas I need to flesh out. If I can pare that down to about 10 decent songs I'll be happy.

My drumming and programming are passable at best; a lot of 3/4, 4/4, and 6/8 are about the best I can do manually. I try but mostly fake it, which is where my recordings are weakest imo.

I have Superior Drummer 3 for drums and it's amazing. Very easy to use.

I've used Addictive Drums 2 for a long time. I wouldn't say I'm too deep into that ecosystem to switch, but I'm super used to it and it works well for me.

Not guitar, but I know we have a lot of Big Wreck/Thornley appreciation here.

This Chris guy's videos have ton of great technical info/break down for vocals, but I have a really hard time making it all the way through any of them. Needs to turn his own vocals down, and feels like he's trying too hard most of the time.

The new EP is just ridiculous. "Fields" is definitely the radio hit. However, "High on the Hog" and "Beano" are just incredible songs....The 4 songs I was sent before this released were different tunes. That said, I'm stoked for what's yet to come on the next 2 EPs.

7.1 is damn good. I hope 7.2 and 7.3 are released in short order. Having just 5 new tunes is like playing 'just the tip'.

I finally broke down and ordered a Kemper. The Mark V profiles I was listening to this weekend sound way better than any tone I’ve ever gotten out of my actual Mark V lol. This shit feels like pay to win for people like myself that are terrible at dialing in amps.

Not exactly guitar content in particular but should be a good series for most here to follow since I assume most here use spare rooms and the like for there setups

Recorded a bit of a metal-ized cover of a classic King Crimson track, "Exiles" from 1972's Larks Tongues in Aspic. Been getting pretty positive feedback on it.

Was going to tune up my violin and try to recreate some of the violin lead part from the original, but damn do I suck at violin compared to David Cross. I can get it to sound "okay," but to anyone that's heard the original it would have sounded terrible haha. So a couple of the instrumental sections are a bit sparse. Haven't been able to work out a guitar lead for it that sounds decent.

Anyway hope you guys enjoy, any feedback positive or negative is welcome.
