Lots of factors. Interdimensional/interstellar species' are probably last on the list.
Confirmed unidentified flying objects and unconfirmed personal experiences are completely different. I'm referring to confirmed documentation of UFOs, not a hill billy's abduction encounter.
The Stealth Bomber was reported as a UFO before being declassified, for example.
The ticktack phenomenon that is confirmed by the US Navy is strong evidence for
something currently unexplainable.
If you don't have verifiable evidence, I don't believe you. In anything unorthodox. You make an accusation or statement, you need to back it up with evidence. I've seen someone on this very thread show a picture of Starlink and ask if it was a UFO. No, it's star link (or possibly the ISS). Likewise, I've known people be confused at why a certain star looks X, and then I just explain that's Jupiter, etc. There's usually a rational answer behind most of these sightings.
However, the militaries of the world are definitely 20-30 years ahead of the rest of us technology wise. I've some friends in USA military intelligence, and I recall them telling me about specific tech they use back in 2009 that is now common usage in the civilian world. And he was a relatively low level position. He technically violated his security clearance by telling me but was never caught. I'm sure the supersecret classified tech is very advanced.
