Surprised nobody has pointed out how similar the original movie's setup was to the Kyle Rittenhouse thing.

-Guy gets falsely accused of "firing into a crowd of protesters" on the news

-Guy gets made an example of (or they try to, anyway)

-Turns out guy just had the wrong political views so they tried to hang him out to dry

Anyway, it isn't like any modern movie is going to touch any of that but it's an interesting thing to think about I guess.

Better trailer than the first one but now it's 30 day Purge rules against a contestant? Collateral damages and bystander deaths acceptable.

reported $105M budget, it might finish 3rd this weekend.
Box Office Pro $25M – $35M (Oct 10, they thought it was going to do $40M – $50M)
Box Office Theory $19M to $28M

That’s pretty divided. One review said the movie tries to stay close to the book and the 80s film at the sametime and as a result, does neither well

I've seen comments about the critics going the way of Bullet Train reviews for this movie. Will have to see if there is more viewer separation away from the film snobs.

You know it's been a long time since I saw the old Running Man but thinking back it was insane as shit. There was a fat guy dressed in LED RPG lighting who sang opera and shot lighting out his hands, he got defeated by a sprinkler system while attempting to rape a bitch. We need go back to a time when scripts were made off cocaine.

It's free on YouTube if you want to take a trip down memory lane. I watched it last month and it's still a fun flick.

Make it like the Bachman book and I would watch the shit out of it. The Bachman idea was cool as hell.

Wasn't Bachman a pseudonym of Stephen King?

In any case, watching the original tonight, no interest in the new one (seems to be reviewing very poorly).

Original is a really good movie and worth a rewatch. It's in the same category as Total Recall, Arnold doing dystopian sci-fi where he gets to show a lot of personality. The villains are basically video game bosses. It's a hoot. I'd put Total Recall above it for sure, though, with things like Predator and T1/T2 above that, on the Arnold sci-fi tiers.
