So out of the two of us, I'm the only one who read the article. However, you saw fit to say the content wasn't worth it, while literally knowing nothing about what was written. Encouraging ignorance is not doing the community a service.

I love it because its the other side of the argument that never gets represented here. I thought you guys welcomed being challenged? Seems to me like you're absolutely terrified of any information that might rock your boat, to the point where you take pride in actually reducing your information input.

And you are in no position to say I "already agree" with him. I have been nothing but open-minded and willing to hear any side of any story. I have changed my mind several times and admitted I was wrong a few times. There's no dogmatic or idealistic reason for me to like the article. It's just a well-written article that cleanly debunks a lot of your bullshit rationalizations. You'll never know, though, since your head is firmly in the sand right now.

When I came back to this community after my few hiatus years, Tanoomba was a new face and appeared to be a sheltered petulant brat. But I approached him like a grown man.

Tanoomba, let's say, just for argument's sake, that everything you post and have posted in the past is completely correct. You say that you do it because it is fun for you, you like to challenge people, and you (probably) want to inform people.

Now let's say that I correct the people in my office every time they say that they "seen a movie" or "supposably" did their job correctly. Let's say that I even patiently explain to them every time why they are wrong, and that I just want to help them be better people. I enjoy helping people speak correctly and improving their grammar, so it is no hassle at all for me to do it, I'm happy to show them the correct path. Let's say this goes on for 2 or 3 years, endlessly repeating, over and over. They don't learn, and I keep correcting them.

Instead of thanking me, they will all think that I'm a fucking douche and start rolling their eyes every time I start my spiel, and talk behind my back at first, and then maybe even blatantly tell me to shut the fuck up. But why?! I've done nothing wrong, and can't they see that I'm just trying to help them? I can't help it if they are too dumb to understand the sacrifice I make for them.

That's with something that has concrete rules, grammar, spelling, etc. Something they can verify quite easily to see that I am 100% correct.

Now apply that to things that are just opinions. Or at best variations in interpretation, variations that pretty much only you hold, while the rest of us feel the opposite. Even if you were 100% correct as well, do you see where people would still be tired of your spiel?

But Void, if they didn't bring it up, I wouldn't need to correct them! If they wouldn't engage me, I wouldn't need to defend myself from their fallacious attacks! No, you're wrong. You don't have to do any of that. I don't correct my coworkers because I know it is a lost cause. Why don't you give up on us as a lost cause?

I already know that your answer will be, "No, you guys give up." Which brings us full circle. But perhaps that will explain why, even if you were totally correct, we could still hate you, and you could walk away knowing you had won. How about it? Walk away?

There's lots of subjects I'm ignorant about and therefore will not argue about. The stuff I do argue, especially the stuff that's come up several times, I am far from ignorant about. In fact, in most cases I have put a greater effort into finding and understanding all the information than those arguing against me (Sulkowicz being probably the best example).

And no, I am not disingenuous. Find me an example of me being disingenuous and I'll show you an example of people making incorrect assumptions about what I "really" mean.

You're right, I don't "have to" defend myself from attacks, any more than any of the people gallery "have to" attack me for saying something they don't like to hear. We all do it anyway because we like our dopamine rush.

But no, Void, here's why I'm not going to walk away:

- I like it here. I've said so many times. Some may hate me, but I don't hate them. I relish the opportunities to correct them on their bullshit, even if it falls on deaf ears. I'm not interested in insular communities where people with unpopular opinions are insta-banned. We take pride in allowing people to speak their minds, and I love having a voice here. I think it reflects well on the community that I am still allowed to post here and I'm certainly going to take advantage of it.

- I refuse to let the terrorists win. I will not, repeat WILL NOT allow myself to be bullied away. If people want me gone, spamming shitposts isn't going to do it. Ignore me, though, and I may very well get bored and move on to other things. The vocal part of the community that has a problem with me actually has the power to shut me up. They're just under the very mistaken assumption that if they make me miserable enough, I will leave.

- I honestly think the community and I have a mutually beneficial arrangement. I love being the voice of reason in an otherwise uninterrupted circle jerk, and they love having a "bad guy" they can shit on. I don't take any of the flak I get personally. I literally can't, since none of the ridicule I'm subjected to is based on reality in any way.

I don't have to "walk away knowing I have won". There are many victories yet to be achieved and much, much more hypocrisy waiting to be exposed. In the end, the only reason I became a bad guy was for expressing an unpopular point of view. In a perfect world, people would be able to handle that with maturity and civility. Barring that, I'm still having fun.

In fact, I think NeoGaf might be more up your alley. They're right on board with banning people who rock the boat. Heck, if you became a mod there you'd be rewarded for abusing your powers!
