The release dates between albums have been getting longer and longer. This has been an obvious trend. But it's also not what I was referring to at all.

Maynard hasn't been a part of the writing process since Ænima. He doesn't have the patience to deal with Adam's tedious process of overanalyzing the music. He doesn't want to take 5+ years to write a record, he needs to be getting things done. That's his personality. Maynard said this himself on the Joe Rogan podcast. Go look it up if you don't believe me.
