People saying "you watch other people play videogames? and maybe pay for it? that's a thing?" is how I've felt about watching sports, always. And yet we have a whole sub-forum of devotees and stadiums across the world. I play sports. I play video games. Watching other people do either is /yawn.

Interesting to see people in this thread unable to understand what the appeal of Twitch is and watching people stream. For me, it's all just entertainment. Whether it be watching a football game on Sunday, Big Brother or Survivor on CBS or Summit playing games. If I enjoy it, I'll watch. I probably spend 3 times as much watching streams( not all games... some of the creative ones as well) as I do conventional TV.
Except every experience I have had with twitch is that it has very little to do with the game and a lot more to do with the personalities.
You are basically watching the Kardashians or some other garbage reality show but it has a background that you like which is video games.
Dumb women like the background of rappers and clothes shopping so they gravitate to Kardashians or Real Housewives.
That is why I hate streamers. Sure you get one or two that just play the game and only do that but they don't command the big numbers. It just doesn't interest me and never has.

I dunno, why what you are talking about is definitely the case for a lot it's not the only thing. Look at Seagull for Overwatch, it's all about his gameplay. Look at the speedrunners for various games

Look at someone like Lirik who is arguably at the same level. Sure he gets a ton of viewers, but listen to the guy. He's a grade A piece of shit. I'd rather watch seagull any day.

Yea..I hear what your saying a_skeleton_03, and I agree, but those aren't the streamers I watch at all. I watch people that just play the game and are just chill people in general and not putting out some kind of fake personality to garner views. To stick with the Kardashians example...sure you can watch that if you want...and it is largerly popular (unfortunately), but you can also watch CSPAN if you wanted as well...you've got options. Same applies to twitch.
Oh I agree, I am just saying that not all of us that aren't fans are just old dudes that can't handle technology.
We just aren't a fan of the medium is all. I would watch a youtube video with zero commentary way before I would watch a twitch stream.

Seagull is worth though. Guy is one of the most deserving on Twitch imo, more streamers need to be like him. I've actually come to enjoy Reynad lately unless he gets ultra salty.
