They were never making policy on the website. They were basically just consultants and Twitch wanted a diverse mix (which is why you have dudes like Cohh with other randos). In fact, after the uproar because of the person who thinks they are a deer and them going full drama mode trying to gloat they were going to help drive policy, they've been pretty quiet regarding it.

cohh is just as much of a weirdo as those other freaks - probably more so

primarily male and minor audience is certainly not kid friendly. Which should be a gaming sites goal, shouldn't it?

Maybe part of the problem is a lot are treating Twitch as a platform as one thing (a gaming platform) when it's really not. It's a social media platform, no different from Twitter or Instagram or YouTube. Also this idea that it's primarily minors but where is this coming from? Twitch themselves say that nearly half of their viewership is over 18 and 21% is made up of minors (probably comparable to any other social media site).

Now that all being said, I 100% agree that hot tub/sexualized type of streams have no business being front and center of the platform. I'm sure you can find plenty of this content on YouTube (which is what Twitch should be compared to) but it's not front and center.

I don't disagree, and you and others are correct in pointing out that it isn't just a gaming platform, and I understand the goal of Twitch to go that route. This is fucking up that goal.

And this is from the linked page. I mean, seriously, WTF?!?!

Girls in bikinis for sexual exploitation of a primarily male and minor audience is certainly not kid friendly.

Wasn't referring to Twitch's general audience, but the audience for these particular streamers. These girls are at best opportunists and at worst sexual predators. Neither is good for the platform Twitch wants to build and it will drive the primary reason for their success away -- GAMERS who want to preview and discuss games.

Except it doesn't drive away gamers who want to preview or discuss games. It's like the people who make a false equivalence that by spending 2 billion on the Mars rover mission, we have somehow taken away from funding (insert social justice issue on Earth). The audience for the "thot streams" isn't the same audience and I doubt audience is being "stolen" from other "regular" streamers.

The only semi-plausible argument one could make to "stolen audience" is regarding female gamers who make themselves more prominent on webcam and they are attractive, basically using their looks as a means to boost viewership. But again, what are your viewers there for? If it is really a true stolen audience situation and they are only there because "pretty lady", then in theory you're just stealing audience from someone who is capitalizing on the "pretty lady" category.

But again, if you are truthful about it, that is nothing new. This is no downfall of society. This is literally marketing 101. Using an attractive model (male or female) to sell a product is one of the oldest capitalistic tricks in the book, because it works. Except on a stream, the product you are selling is your brand (aka you).

If you look at successful people on Twitch, they have 1 or more of the following. If you can hit on 2 or more, all the better:

1) They have skill
2) They have looks
3) They have personality/are funny
4) They have a gimmick

Same formula exists for all sorts of things outside of streaming, be it pro-sports or even politics

Solid argument but can we at least fence it in and put a bouncer at the door. Remember the $1 CC to access porn sites? Genie is out of the bottle I suppose, why fight it.

What happens when Twitch turns into Chaturbate, is this the image Amazon wants? Is any of it? /shrug

I agree with Edaw Edaw . If women want to make the content and men want to search for it (and they will), then the platform should allow it as long as it's legal. Just don't put it on the front page and shove it in kids' faces when they are trying to find the latest Fortnite stream.

I had actually forgot about this but who remembers 'booth babes' at E3 (or practically any other gaming convention)? I mean that kind of stuff was actually promoted on gaming websites.

As far as the 'stealing viewers' argument, even some of the top streamers themselves (including female streamers who are actually playing games) think that's a bullshit argument for essentially the same reason stated (they are not competing for the same types of viewers).

I think the main issue as others have said is that it's not just that it's on Twitch but it's front and center on Twitch. Part of is because Just Chatting is their most popular category. Another part is because Twitch uses the algorithm of most viewers so it will always put the hot tub stuff on top because that's getting views. I'm not so sure they would create something like NSFW or Adults only because that gets them in the business of policing content on streams and then that starts a whole new debate on what is actually NSFW or Adults only.

The other problem with NSFW or AO is that just gating it behind an "I am over 18" button would cause more outrage since a.) if you were to do that you would get people pushing for X rated content if they are going to be labeled as such anyways and b.) a ton of the ad viewers for Twitch are not logged in and if it was just based on the honor system then, along with a., what separates it from an actual porn website?

Those aren't problems because Twitch already bans for actual nudity. They'd actually make their own life easier by gating channels behind a NSFW wall because any content outside of it that should be there is automatically suspended/banned and they can more easily keep track of the channels behind the wall.

One thing does surprise me with this entire Hot Tub Thot craze, and that is that so far none have managed to either flood their living room with a crazy stunt, or even electrocute themselves when some camera or mic drops in the water.

Some time back some girl died sitting in the tub talking on the phone that was plugged into the charger. She pulled the charger in. There's always a way, someone will find it.

Just so we know what we are talking about : out of the 360ish streams in the just chatting category that have more than 100 viewers, there is at the moment of this post exactly 1 hot tub stream with 500ish viewers.
