Ol' Johnny is off to a Korean prison, with labor, for six months, plus an additional 20 days detained. He's also reportedly banned from working at places serving minors or vulnerable people. Id have loved to see a longer sentence, but I do like the idea of this doofus doing factory or farming work a while.

Weird that after such a prolonged dog and pony show they'd only sentence him to 6 months out of the possible 3 years he was facing.

If he was in custody/pretrial detention the whole time (since it was so prolonged) I assume that counts as time served on a sentence? A quick google says it is common in South Korea.

I know in Norway due to the slow sentencing on many cases, people can end up with only months served on multiple year sentences due to being in custody the whole time. On violent crimes and such in Norway, most people are in custody during the investigation and then during the trial. Not allowed out. If they are found innocent, they get up to $150ish per day as an "apology" for the wrongful imprisonment. Rule is only 4 weeks of custody that can be extended, which it often is until trials are completed if you're the main suspect. There is "bail" (though always usually with house restrictions, passport removal and such), but less used than custody. So much so that Amnesty has officially complained about the over use of it since people can end up serving more time in custody during the process of conviction than how long the actual conviction say you need to spend in jail.

iirc he was not. That was part of their non-judicial punishment of him is that he was stuck in the country on his own dime waiting for the trial.

I got similar damage on my middle finger from play sword fighting with knives as an idiot teenager. The difference is my mom was gone for the night for some reason ( very unusual) and my step dad wrapped and said it was fine. Mom came home next day and freaked out and took me to doctor. Doc said it's to late we can't work on it anymore.

I can only imagine the judge wants to set an example for other streamers coming into South Korea while also wanting Johnny Somali out of his country ASAP.

They were unable to prove the deepfake victim faced substantial embarrassment which made the sentencing guideline a lot lower.

They didn't outright call her a whore-- but the lack of finding that a sex tape caused significant embarrassment isn't exactly virtuous either. His defense did a good job demonstrating she's not the victim they needed her to be.

Had she been a corporate employee with limited social media presence, he'd be looking at years.

He does have to register in the US as a sex offender. This is a lasting consequence by the Korean court.

He also has a 5 year ban from interacting with adolescents, disabled, and children at any future job.
