When it comes to scaling? It’s sensibly difficult. There are more mobs, some hit harder, some have resistances turned up, some have more HP. It’s varied across the board it seems so far.

I'm not a fan of the "more hitpoints" mechanic that some games use (was it PoE or D3?) as it results in monsters becoming complete bullet sponges and fights just take forever.

They aren’t increased THAT much, things balance pretty well.

Was having fun with it, then our server started to freeze up for minutes at a time. I tried to open a door and it took 5 minutes and then opened and closed rapidly 20 times etc.

Out in the ocean today we found an island that had some rare items on it, we started mining and the island started growling and sinking....it ended up being a giant turtle!

We killed our first Sea Serpent tonight. They actually run at <33% hp, so you have to have some one harpoon them so they can't run away. Just dropped some super meat. The turtles are legit awesome as well. Definitely some cool world shit. The vendor is very helpful when you find him. Finally you troll coins will be "worth" something!

We still haven't done a 3rd boss but we're in silver weapons/iron weapons and just stocking up. It's probably overkill, but we just love filling a ship with ore, bringing it back, smelting for an hour, and then just making whatever anyone wants. That's a great feeling in these games. Silver is a bitch to find, but luckily you can get 80-100 ingots when you find a vein.

The Plains is an awesome biome. Deadly, deadly shit with great upgrades and some unique monsters. Great feel to it too. Love kiting the big boy Flox around then BAM mosquito one-shots you and it's corpse run time! Classic EQ feeling right there.

I was holding off on this, but I feel comfortable with saying it now. Much like all survival games, food consumption needs a better balancing...and with this game you need the option to brake down crafted items into raw components. Small things aside though, this is the best $20 game I may have ever spent to game. It’s just a good time, especially with a group of friends.

We're enjoying the game a lot and progressing super slowly (primarily when the 3 of us are on, otherwise I bring the server up and farm when it's just 1-2 of us).

My problem is I can't find any damn copper deposits. I've seen screenshots of the deposits, and I've seen large stones that seem like they should house those deposits, but no luck with ore.

Black Forest, look for large round hills that are splotchy green.

Finally got copper. It's a whole new game.

Unless I'm missing something else about that image, you probably need to build scaffolding to support the roof you're building, can then maybe take it down after.

Use the slanted thatch and corner pieces on corners. Buildings are pretty sound in this game so don't worry too too much about anchoring stuff. For wood, water damage will decay it over time, but roofing is waterproof and never decays. Make sure to roof over all wood buildings. Make sure to vent smoke by having an elevated piece of roof on small poles or you'll smoke yourself to death.

I'd likely be playing solo on public servers. Loved Conan PVE. Sounds like this is worth picking up, if it's not horrible solo?

Couple more tips for building:

-Use a half-wall piece if you want to do multi story. There's really bad clipping on your head if you add a ceiling and it's just two units high.
-You can only use the components as shown. So no corewood walls just the logs. Sucked when we had 1000 core wood and like 200 wood and I had to build an omega base.
-Roof off everthing. This prevents decay from water damage which can fuck you over majorly and is annoying to run around with a hammer repairing every 4 hours.
-The color building system is NOT structural integrity, rather structural connectivity. So a blue piece can connect 4 places, a green 3 places, yellow 2 places, orange 1 place, and red can't connect. There is NO structural indicator you just kind of have to eyeball it or learn what doesn't work when your roofing collapses on you. Most shit is pretty sturdy though.

And some misc tips:

-Get a cultivator and throw out wood trees wherever the fuck you want. They grow back to full size pretty fast (1-2h real time) and you can literally reforest your base several times a day for easy wood access.
-Get the big boy iron ship. It has a storage hold. Without being able to TP ore and other things this is very important.
-Out mining copper and tin? Take Antler pickaxes and quick build a shit repair station out in the field or by your boat/cart. You can repair it instantly and keep mining until you're full. The bronze+ stuff requires a forge and it sucks ass when they run out of durability.
-If you've got excess wood, burn it in a kiln and box it up for the big smelts. It's like 2 coal per 1 smelt I believe and you can chew through that shit quick when unloading 100+ ore at once.
-Don't bother with taming animals, at least boars. They just multiply and then you have meat for... reasons?
-Get out there and sail! You'll need to find X/Y/Z biome for whatever material you need and you may deplete the local stuff. Finding easily sailable areas with the stuff you need is really important to advancement and flushing out your gear. We even cut a fucking canal through our continent so we can go east or west from our base now.
