Started playing this yesterday, quite good but also a bunch of really weird design decisions. It took me like 30mins to go find mods. Not having craft from chests/auto stack feels horrible, especially with how small chests and stack sizes are. Got the mod to fix that and a few others as I progressed, like the one that makes items float because some mob died in a river and somehow I can't loot the items because my viking doesn't know how to dive a kiddie pool's depth? Then once I got to portals I installed the mod that just lets you choose your destination, pairing portals is just a massive mess for no real reason. Anyway after a handful of mods it's fine.
Ended up raging a fair bit when I died in swamps as I was setting up my base when I just got there, then on the runback I built a temporary house on the safe side in case of and instantly got a raid spawned on it which took me a while to get rid of(by waiting for them to despawn since there was no way to actually fight it without any gear), then tried to cross the sea but turns out I didn't eat enough food so I died right before reaching the coast, so I had to spend another 15-20mins running around to build a raft to cross to get back to it. Overall I think I spent almost 2 hours just off that one death with like a dozen of naked deaths trying to gather stuff to get back to my corpse.
Anyway now I'm more or less setup, need to get a forge running since for some reason you can't transport ores in portals which is another questionnable decision but I'll deal with that one, smelt some iron, upgrade then go kill the boss.
Speaking of, my first boss experience was interesting, it spawned on top of a tree and was stuck there. Magic of procedurally generated content I guess. Just shot at it with a bow then cut the tree to collect loot, was a bit anticlimatic but well.
