This will be official shortly.

Basically what I didn't want to see. I want to see them challenge the Quest 2 model. We'll see what comes out of the keynote (currently in progress)

Now official: $800 for the HMD.

So you get a HMD with better resolution and slightly better FOV, but still need to spend $800 for the HMD + $400 for stations + $260 for controllers + $350 if you want wireless. Yes, these dont even come with controllers. The base kit with HMD, Controllers, and 2 Base Stations is $1399. And it seems they are sticking with their same horrible controller/touchpad as before. /slowclap.

$1400 vs $299 for base functionality, or $1750 vs $299 if you want wireless. Un fucking believable. Facebook releasing at such a low price really did fuck all these companies. I bet they hate them so badly. But if it wasn't for Facebook, the market wouldn't have become as mainstream as it is starting to become. These companies are going to need to start figuring out ways to innovate and do it at a much cheaper price, or they are not going to be around long.

I was going to suggest that if there wasn’t a market for it they wouldn’t be making it, then I remembered every attempt at cloud/streaming gaming from the past 15 years.

True but at least this thing is backwards compatible with my Valve kit, so for only $749 I'm getting a nice resolution upgrade.

Still only 1 game that really is worth playing, they need more high grade titles beforehand.

Its just the truth :/ I'm legit sad I couldn't preorder... this game looks truly amazing!.... And I am disabled... that is my only income... don't you think trash talking that is a little rude? :/
I had never heard of the word foler ... but I have no clue how that word applies to me.

Rude is what FoH does, just gotta take the body blows.

But I thank you for the Zenith info. Didn't know about this one.

I just read a report that forecasted the Augmented Reality sector will be worth over 80 Billion US$ by 2025, compared to just 10-15 billion $ for VR. That seems unbelievable. Obviously its just a prediction based on trends and studies etc, but what is going to change in the next 3 years or so that creates that scenario regarding AR?

There are unlimited applications for true AR, such as the medical field, product visualization, education, digital media entertainment, sports, technical training, travel, its application is almost unlimited. There are currently many AR tech related platforms now, with medicine and GPS/navigation being the most prominent. But I wonder what is going to cause this massive breakthrough for AR in the next 3 years?

Apple is going hard into the AR space. I’m pretty dim witted with futurism stuff but I can think of atleast 10 ways AR would vastly improve workflow in my field and I’m sure that applies for a lot of other jobs. Plus Nintendo is probably working on Pokémon go evolved or some shit

Mixed AR/VR is where its at.

Digital overlays on real world space with virtual aspects that enhance the experience.

Imagine how sick it would be to get 5 or 6 of your friends and go to a paintball indoor arena or something and have a real life team death match where your weapon is AR'd on top of a placeholder fake gun you actually hold, with AR/VR effects for bullets and hit boxes, and VR elements such as enemy bots spawning in recreated areas. (like you and your buds have to defeat a boss and when you get to the designated spot in real life a VR overlay creates a volcanic wasteland with a giant demon you actually shoot at.

Would be fucking insane.

Every time I’m mowing my property I day dream about how nice it’d be to have an AR display of lanes/rows to follow. If it was open field it wouldn’t be so bad but with trees and other obstacles, I find it impossible to mow in the same pattern I’d use on a quarter acre yard.

Porn. Porn always causes technology leaps.

Let’s say you’ve got a girl with a smoking bod but a face like bowser, I can see AR working in a pinch there you can just turn her face into Aeris or whoever

My new headset arrived today, hopefully get time to hook it up and try it out tonight. I have read some reviews and it seems like a mixed bag/sidegrade type thing compared to the Valve Index, but I hate SDE and they say it is totally gone with this panel. That alone may make it worth the money.

First thoughts after very little use is that it is not a substantial upgrade to Valve Index. I am reinstalling HL: Alyx and going to play back through that and see what its like at 120hz and higher res.

Ouch. Can you return it? Or are you happy with it?

Porn already has VR. What would AR specifically add to porn?
If I could figure out how to program it, I could be a mega-millionaire. Make a virtual girlfriend/wife that lives around the house. Give her a good voice assistant personality. She can watch netflix with users on the couch, and they can pay buku bucks for some skimpy outfit DLCs. The thirsty dudes would love it. Make it so they have to do shit with her to level up to unlock more outfits or sex positions and such. Could even have her sleep in bed next to them. A waifu pillow with those 3d tracking marks on it. Just gotta figure out how to get physical interaction. Maybe a fleshlight with those 3d tracking marks on the outside. Think of all the money that could be had with accessories. Link her up with Alexa and Google Home so she can talk to them without their headset on like the movie HER. Integrate her into a phone or watch app so they can talk to her at work or out and about or text message her.

Could even have a premium version where real women could get paid hourly to be the voice of the girlfriend. User could put cameras around their house and get a 3d scan, and that could go to a VR set that the RL woman wears and can move around that persons house. Hell, porn ideas aside, users could hire people to eat dinner with them, or have a dinner or watch a movie with distant family members as if they are in the same room. You could even turn it into the next version of online dating. AR is the next best thing until hologram technology actually works.
