The Verbas are bad. What you have to do is wait for the guy to flare and fire before the flares go out, right as they are fading. And you have to be close enough that the pilot's flare counter doesn't reset letting him flare again. But not too close that the old flare still has enough juice to work or they are inside your targeting range. Its... dumb. You need multiple people on launchers, or a pilot that is just not on the ball. Like I said, one time I really saw it work was an elevated position with 4 or 5 launchers that stagger fired.

The other problem with AA is usually there is more than 1 helo. Your static AA has a short lifespan if it misses. If the helos are coordinating once it launches everyone comes to snuff out its existence. Multiple people in vehicles has been more successful lately but once you are 'known' everyone in the air wants you dead.

Also, pilots can carry flares and ammo in their backpacks. So making them burn through their flares takes a lot longer than it should as they just resupply their bird from their backpack.

Is there some trick to this? One thing I struggle with when flying is spotting the missile when I someone has lock on me. I'm using mouse for pitch and roll, which means I have to turn free look off, which means I somehow have to try to fly terrain while intermittently tapping alt to look around. Is there some other way to know when the missile has launched?

I fly on a controller. I'm told mouse and keyboard is actually superior for Wardogs if you can get the muscle memory down, cause they have done a weird thing with HOTAS that causes it to have binary inputs and not gradual ones so if you manage to get good at M&K you're going to be near the top.

What I do on controller is I have free look on by default and have a reset camera button and a 1st person/3d person button mapped. I use both flying depending on the situation, but if I hear a lock and I can't immediately break it with terrain, I swap into third person and spin the camera looking for the smoke trail.

I don't know if this will be as easy on M&K, but it seems to be similar to a lot of pilots method.

Yeah I switch to third person for approaches and landing. The problem is that when you're free looking you're not controlling pitch and roll, which is a problem if you're trying to hug terrain. In reality, there should be no "lock" warning for a Verba since it uses passive IR/UV; it should be a launch detection alarm from the MAWS, which would tell you to launch flares.

How is the keyboard setup? Normally A/D and Q/e are Yaw and Roll, depending on preference and W/S are Pitch? When you go into free cam mode are those keys no longer bound?

I can't do M/K cause the muscle memory for me is horrible so not familiar with it. Too many buttons all on top of each other, but I've heard that a lot of the stuff for Wardogs flight is kinda shit until you do a lot of tinkering.

I use WS for collective and AD for yaw. This setup was the one that clicked for me when I was trying not to crash every flight. :)
