Yeah Abnett can still churn out novels like Steven King in his hay day. If it was ADB we'd be looking at a 2024 release at the earliest!

I was looking in to some of the Black Library special editions or limited editions to go along with my other stuff like Sanderson or Eriksen, etc. What a convoluted mess. Granted there are eleventy billion novels and stories out there but I'm having a hard time even figuring out what is actually limited, special, numbered, signed, exclusive, legendary, blah blah. All the different treatments they've had.

The Black Library website is an absolute mess; I have to think that it is intentional how hard it is to find any single book, a release date, or even an accurate view of where to find it.

This site is the most up to date and best way to find that info but does not help trying to find LE or SE stuff.

Almost done with Galaxy in Flames audiobook. This has been my first exposure to Warhammer lore (aside from brief stuff in games) and I now get the fervor for it.

Toby Longworth has done an excellent job so I'm bummed to see it's a different narrator in Flight of the Eisenstein.

Thankfully all of the audiobook narrators that I've listened to (I'm on book 46, but have skipped about half) are good. Don't remember any being bad, but some are a bit better than others, especially depending on the characters they portray and continuing that persona from book to book.

I think for me, by about book 8? I got more comfortable with the shifts in writing. The POVs shift so much and the atmosphere of the Legions and the missions change so much that the difference in style didn’t hit as hard. If it were all continuous the whole way through it likely would have been much more noticeable.

Currently going down a Warhammer rabbit hole on YouTube. Liking the Majorkill and Wolf Lord Rho channels.

I'm pretty impressed that they are moving the setting on to 41k in a seemingly satisfying way.

I feel like we need some primarchs swapping sides with one falling and one being redeemed. Corax secretly being a demon bird and Fulgrim having a perfect untainted clone seem like good candidates.

Fulgrim clone is in Trayzen the Infinite's stasis gallery. Nothing is gonna happen with him.

I am up to 'Fear to Tread' and can't find it anywhere cheap. I don't want to keep or collect the darn thing, just wanted to read it even if its just a pdf. Any suggestions?

New Cawl/Bile book is great. Way less bolter porn and way more plot/lore advancement. It's called Genefather.

Bringing this back to life as the end times are seemingly on us. Over the last year or so I’ve made my way through a few of the books/ series previously recommended in this thread and for those interested in the setting I’d echo the praise for:

The Beast Omnibus: This was just terrific all the way around touching on all aspects of the Empire in 40K. I really had a hard time putting this one down.

Eisenhorn Omnibus: Read this after I played Rogue Trader which was great timing since like the game it didn’t really have much to do with Space Marines but each of them really fleshed out some lore that I was not too familiar with. Eisenhorns evolution over the course of the series is great though the last book was probably my least favorite even though it did wrap things up fairly well.

Night Lords Omnibus: I got this with some trepidation because these guys seemed pretty one dimensional murder hobos and I was curious how far that could go, but ADB really did a great job of fleshing things out, and after the first couple main books I almost developed some sympathy but then yeah that final book happens. Anyway I wouldn’t put this as quite “can’t stop reading” as the other two but if you want some chaos space marines in your diet you won’t go wrong here.

Know No Fear: Awesome and more awesome Heresy stuff. All action, one of the few WH books I’ll probably read again. Follow up book Mark of Calth was also pretty good.

Hellsreach: watched the fan video many years back and finally followed up with the book. Another book heavy on the action and Black Templar worldview.

I also read the following which were ok from a lore perspective but just didn’t grab me as much as the others. Angel Exterminatus, Fear to Tread, First Heretic, Legion and Betrayer. First Heretic was probably my favorite of that batch and both Fear to Tread and Legion were quite underwhelming.

Anyway, now to figure out what’s next! Will probably chip away a bit more at Horus Heresy or find some xenos stuff on Tyranids or Necrons. If anyone has any recommendations for those let me know.
