Again, it's just intentionally there to fuck with people who like the setting. They could easily insert females and many colored/cultured people in 40k for the tv show and the lore snippets without making them marines or custodians. they just chose not to because fuck-you. The novels include absolute heaps of female characters that have important roles, some times main roles. tons of cool stuff. arbitors, psykers, inquisitors, assassins, guards men (in mixed and non mixed regiments). govenors, nobles, pirates, chaos worshipers, sisters of battle, sisters of silence, basically all the elder (cus they gay, oooooh), i think comissar cain was fucking a female mechanicus chick (i seem to remember she had a tail and skate feet?). they could accomplish anything with the tools they have but fuck-you. get ruined nerds. have some gay space marines too while we're at it.

it's not even about authority or weight in the setting. female inquisitor shows up and tells the ultramarines to glass a world. they'll do it. the Warmaster of a region could be a woman. the space ships are flying cities and have plenty of female crew and captains (oh shit forgot navigators, tons of female navigators, some as main characters).

But fuck you nerds!

ps. they're likely going to add super cool female units to all armies, and make them OP next edition, so everyone has to use them or loose.

People are really upset at this? GW has always had weird shit in their games. They had trannies before trannies were mainstream. Leathered up gay bois and naked big titty daemonettes. As a slannesh player, who cares if your astartes has tits now.

folks are annoyed because it's a very calcualted 'fuck you', not an attempt to get the thing they claim they want (female leads, female characters, inclusive characters, female models etc). they could have use one of literally hundreds of interesting female characters from the novels, or archtypes, or vectors, but they chose a sacred cow that was explicitely stated 10 jillion times to work a certain way.

one thing i havenet heard any streamers say yet about the reason it's odd to make a 'femael space marine' is that the way the process works, is they MUST start hte process on a boy who isn't quite done with puberty yet. cut him open, insert the geneseed, which hijacks the process, causing him to become overly muscled, gigantic, grow metahuman organs and fused bones. they are all beefy square faced over muscled bricks like the mountain or jocko. it's so agressively masculine you woudoln't want a female htat looks like that. you'd have to admit their puberty works a whole other way than mens.

There's even been key items in the lore where some figures were "too old' to do the process. In the dark angel novels, it detailed that some characters were mere men when the emperor came to find (shit brain fart. lionel johnson?) and they were too old to begin the process, so they were given other genemodifications and implants that made them super human, but not astartes.

and then IN the lore, the literal best minds in the imperium do not fully understand the process and can't replicate it. thtey say over and over that if even one geneseed is lost, it cannot be replaced artificially. basically every marine has the seed he was transformed with, and grows another, so in his whole life each marine expands the capability to make another marine by 1 if he lives long enough (removing the origional seed will kill him). enough marines get voided into space, or completely exploded that for many chapters (like flesh tearers) this isn't enough 'roproduction'.

So much like the part of the theme of frankenstein is that 'man tries to create life, it's not right, woman makes life not man', the all male marines can't flourish. female marine would what? just shit babies? who knows.

anyway that's why it's absurd.. they could have writen dope stories about female arbites, assasin, inquistior, agents, chaos cultist, psyker, sorcerer, mechanicus, imperial guardsmen, titan pilots, aircraft pilots, ship captain, ship crew, eldar, tau, (necrons? heh), sister of battle, sisters of silence, squats, ogryns, ratlings, navigator, rogue trader, eldar, dark eldar, hrudd, knights, imperial noble, xenophile heretic, demon world inhabitant, demon, demonhost, or let dan abnett make up some new genesculpted super woman thing....but they didn't. they chose a point of lore that had been emphesized over and over and over just as a calculated 'fuck you'.

i do half expect that they will make some novel about how they was another process that just the costodes knew to make a genemodded girl-thing to excuse making models (kind of how they created big marines out of whole cloth which was also fucking stupid), THEN they will go "SEE LOOK, TOLD YOU". man big marines are fucking stupid.

If the change had been "Custodes were always psykers before" or "Custodes always had two heads before", or some such, nobody would've given a fuck, just like nobody ever gave a fuck about GW changing things exactly like this around twice a week, probably.


But because this time they made the mistake of including a ... booooooo ... woman (the horror), you get a bunch of incels and internet-bottom-feeders with zero actual interest in 40K bandwaggoning on to feed their loony tinfoil-hat theory about some worldwide conspiracy pushing "woke" as some kind of forced cultural change and calculated political-coup strategy or whatever, trying to make that a "thing" in 40K now after miserably failing to do so in Star Wars and Netflix or whatever.

You have to make the argument as simple and clean as possible. Just use one of:

1) 40k is based on militaries and holy orders, which were single sex, and that's OK. Changing it is a value judgement that the setting was wrong and needed changing.

2) Women in name only characters created to check boxes are boring. There is no attempt at an interesting storyline to include a female Custodes. Sister of Battle/Silence are more interesting having different powers and struggles than their male counterparts.

3) 40k already has mixed sex imperial agents and guard. This change makes the setting less diverse.

I think the real problem here is warhammer is now popular enough that the alt-right is using it as a platform to bitch about. This is how they generate clicks and revenue.

If you don't like space marines with tits don't buy them. GW will stop making them. I think most people who are into the modeling and painting aspect would welcome them. It's always nice to have a different choice of models and poses.

I understand women in any combat arms unit makes zero sense, but that's real life. For a tabletop miniature game I don't care one bit. It's fantasy. If someone wants a pink bit titty space marine chapter more power to them. Lore nerds can fuck right off. The lore fanatics are just fucking uber-nerds anyway that would be miserable to play against.

1) In the original version / lore / setting of warhammer 40K, Adeptus Custodes were regular normal humans stationed on terra.

2) They retconned the fucking shit out of them for profit, as they did with many other parts of the setting, in this case turning Custodes into some weird Space Marines' Space Marines, making the entire concept an anathema to "good writing" and "creativity" to begin with. Nobody with genuine interest in lore buys Custodes=big-gold-dudes anyhow.

3) They will continue to do this every other thursday as long as they feel like it.

If you didn't notice this before welcome to a realization most people made about 40K ca. 1991.

Just looking at dumpster fire that is YouTube commentary and comments sections, GW has managed to fracture their audience.

I think the thing that separates it from a simple lore change drama is that they lied, then proceeded to disemble and gaslight their audience.

folks woudl actively enjoy any number of the existing 40k story arcs what feature plenty of women. the best stories in 40k, arn't about spess mahreens IMO, or a spess mahreen is featured as teh cavalry that shows up in the nick of time. we could be five series' deep now with strong independant wahmen, but...again, that's not what the marxists want. they want to ruin everything they can. they specifically want to upset people and damage IP so they can assert that this is the norm. They want to normalize shitty so there's no way to escape their religion. "it's always been this way" "fiction has always been laden with leftist ideology" "all scifi always had people talk like california drones".
