If that doesn't work let me know and I will point you to an iptorrent release of Windows 8 that I used on my NUC that is activated just fine.

Yeah, the stutter and slow down have decreased dramatically since it finish scrapping my NAS. With Nox it is pretty much perfectly smooth now since I excuse 99% of the issues with the Logitech K400 and sitting like 15' away from the NUC. I'm lucky if 3 / 10 keystrokes register. Really need to look in to getting my Harmony to work with it.

Edit: And not 10 minutes after posting that run in to two "problems." Trying to watch Rise of the Guardians and the directory contained .rar's with the subtitles. XBMC seemed to try to extract the rars and then begin playing, which caused a reboot. Haven't looked at any preferences to get around this. Anyways, didn't need subs so just deleted the files and the movie played..... For about 5 minutes. Then it just stopped and hung for a minute or two and crashed back to the Library. Tried that 3 - 4 times and gave up. I hate technology.

Windows 8 validation worked perfectly, so that's all squared away.

Only thing I wish they had (and they might, so tell me if there is) is a scraper that prompts you for each file in your library. I'd rather it ask me all of them at once then have to browse through them one by one and check. Like a bunch of them have shitty resolution cover pics and no wallpaper pic, perhaps because I scraped it in the standard XBMC skin first? Now I have to manually go through each one and hit refresh and choose the title. I wish there was an option to just do that for every single one if I choose, so I don't have to keep backing out and going to the next one. Anything like that out there?

Oh, and the Aeon Nox add-on for the week's TV schedule is pretty fucking sweet. I've got similar functionality on my phone and my rss feeds for torrents, but just pulling it up and seeing what will be new this week is nice.

EDIT: Intrinsic, which version of Rise of the Guardians do you have? I have the 720p SPARKS one with rar files and rar subtitles. Going to play it for awhile and see what happens, but if it isn't the same version it might not prove anything.

EDIT 2: Played it for a couple of minutes and it seemed ok, so I screwed around with subtitles and chose "Browse for subtitles", went to the subdirectory, chose the rar, chose the sub file inside the rar, and it showed up for a couple of seconds then froze the screen. Had to power off to get out of it.

Tried it again just starting it, and watched as it unrared (very quickly) the main files and the sub files, and it seems to be playing fine. It was only browsing for the subs that fucked it up. Well, so far anyway, going to leave it playing and see how far it gets.

That's strange because my K400 will register from the next room over through a wall.

Vvoid

you could use ember media manager to scrape your library and create .nfo files for xbmc to use. not sure how your files are stored but if they don't have a .nfo in the directory it shouldn't affect your seeding.

I'll check it out since it has been mentioned a couple of times now, but I'm pretty much just whining about the initial setup. Once I get everything going it won't be much effort at all to keep things straightened out. If I download 5 (non-porn) movies in a week that's a lot, and TV shows work as soon as I put them in the right folder, so it's just me bitching at the up front work

Thanks for the advice though.

Yeah, thanks for testing. Not sure if that unrar issue is due to running the OS off the USB stick and not an internal HD, but it isn't a big deal. I never allow subs or anything inside my folders either, this one just slipped through. It is the SPARKS version, btw.

The other issue is present in almost everything though. Watching Django Unchained now and it is doing it almost every 10 minutes on the dot. It'll stop playing, can see the audio type on the receiver go blank, so I know it's stopped receiving a stream, and then it'll crash back to library. I can resume where playback left off....

Good jesus, middle of typing this up went to reboot it because I read Vvoid's issue about temperature, sure enough the damn box was hotter than hell. Reboot and now it is stuck in an "No boot filename received, exiting Intel Boot Agent" look where it won't boot off the USB stick.

Vvoid - have you checked out Filebot? its great. It does the renaming on a file by file basis. not sure if this works for you since you dont rename your torrents but its been great for me

That sucks, hope it started working for you again once it cooled off. Not sure what is up with the BIOS but there is obviously a problem with some of them being set way too hot. Doesn't sound like everyone gets it, but no idea why some would be set differently.

Never checked out Filebot either, but I'll take a look at it as well. I pretty much have everything set up already so weekly maintenance shouldn't be too difficult. It named everything accurately except two TV shows (Castle and Once Upon A Time, both of which had other versions available too), and a few movies, like Django Unchained that was simply named "du.mkv" (it decided upon Dune) and Hellraiser 2-8 which were literally called Hellraiser2, Hellraiser3, etc. So other than missing a few "wallpaper pictures" that was remedied with a simple refresh on each movie, I'm all set now.

My only issue now is waiting for the flirc dongle so I can get rid of the mouse.

Yeah that's the first thing I did too (well, after installing Win 8), specifically because I had read about the temperature issue. Temp was still set at 78C after the update. Just the 15 minutes or so that it took to install Windows and locate the BIOS update raised the temperature to "almost too hot to hold in my hand" levels.

Mine is much, much cooler now that I changed it myself.

It did not start working, but I mean really the onlyreinstallnecessary was to reflash the USB stick and rescrape the NAS, so wasn't too bad. Next quota check I'll probably just buy the mSATA SSD and go that route. But it was absolutely too hot to hold. Oh, and the K400 issue was resolved, was using the laptop dongle (duh) and replaced it with the CPU dongle and it works flawlessly. Going to keep tinkering, but still want to hackintosh or legit get my Harmony fully working. The fiance would appreciate it also

I built my Plex box or HTPC out of azboxAll I run on it is Plex, I do have xbmc on it but I have a QNAP NAS 469 Pro that is running the Plex server on it. I have all my dvd's/b-rays ripped to the NAS and just stream them through Plex. I tried xbmc but ended up sticking with Plex, just liked it much better. I do like the option of slinging my Plex data out to the web and can watch my media on my iPad/iPhone while at work or on the road.

I also went withthiskeyboard/mouse combo for it, works much better than the included one.

Was thinking about getting a Roku for the bedroom instead of building another HTPC. Was looking at the Roku rev 3 if anyone has any experience with it. Just want the Plex part of it running.

The Plex 2 runs Roku quite well so the 3 will also but neither Roku (at this time) does MKV's well.

Still running in to errors playing different movies with Openelec and the NUC. Not quite sure if it is a network problem or a particular encoding issue with the files. Certain movies will play perfectly fine, such as a 1080p rips of Batman Begins, a few other reference blu-rays with quite large file sizes. Then I get to this version of Django Unchained, and it crashes every 10 minutes, and this copy of Evangelion Rebuild 1.11 completely reboots XMBC when it tries to play. Guess I'll have to post on Openelec's board and see if there is a debug or log file that would capture what happens when it crashes.

Yeah there is a log file, they can walk you through it. It's a little bit above my skill level if its individual movies and not the entire install.
