Vivaldi all the way.

I like Vivaldi a lot, but I hate that I can't right click on bookmarks in the toolbar and just edit them. I have to go into the bookmark manager to do it. I'm way to lazy to do that and it annoys me.

So Quantum is using insanely low ram compared to chrome, edge and old firefox.

I don't know why people seem to be having such vastly different results. Right now I have 6 tabs open including foh, twitch and webmail, 229 MB used...

I would have been happier if Quantum didn't break Noscript. Ublock seems too dependent on lists.

Couldn't imagine living without Opera.

Love the slick UI, and the way they do Speed Dial, History, and Bookmarks is unmatched by any other browser, in my opinion.

They switched to a Chromium based engine a few years ago, so all the popular Chrome Store extensions work. (as well as Opera's own collection)

Well I took Quantum and Vivaldi for a spin, and I'll be sticking with Opera.

Quantum still feels just like Firefox with a coat of paint. Maybe it's faster, but they've done nothing to advance the UI. The options window still feels clunky and "tacked on", and the bookmarks management is still fucking horrible.

Vivaldi plays pretty nice, and I'll probably keep it installed so I can follow development. I do like some of the options they are bringing back from the old "pre-Chromium" version of Opera (e.g. the status bar functionality, panel toggle etc). It still seems a bit slower than Opera for me; in startup, page reloading (from cache, mine are on RAM disk) and even scrolling doesn't feel quite as smooth. Installed the same add-ons to make it as fair as possible.

The Speed Dial needs some work, mainly because new tile pictures are not saved between sessions (Opera solved this ages ago) and you can't right click a page to add it quickly to the Speed Dial.

I still think the Opera UI looks far cleaner/easier on the eye, even after experimenting with the theme altering features in Vivaldi. It's a first release, so really interested to see where they take it next.

The only noticeable difference Quantum has made in my life is that it broke several of my key add-ons and gave me no way to go back without manually installing an older version. Ain't notbody got time for that. Maybe it is a few milliseconds faster or some shit, but that doesn't matter to me compared to being able to queue up my downloads (not porn, I swear!) with DownThemAll. Fuckingshitsucks.jpg

Quantum is working well for me so far (Linux Fedora 26/27).
It was useless without Noscript at first but would say it is safeish to upgrade now. Browser is now much faster, more responsive and stable than ever even with tons of tabs open.

Plusses:
Some major Linux memory leak bugs now gone.
No crashes yet since upgrading. (used to explode and freeze semi frequently with intense tab pressure and some unruly scripts)
No issues whatsoever with FoH.

Most important addons are working well:
  • uBlockOrigin (OK)
  • Noscript (OK) but now slower UI, missing UI options and functionality of old.
Some new addons are a great plus:
  • Tab Session Manager: works even better than old session manager which was buggy and often ate pages upon restarts/crashes.
  • Multi-Account Containers: Awesome isolation now. Even less reason to ever jump to Chrome.
Only minus:
Some legacy addons not working or broken:
  • Video DownloadHelper: works but needed manual fiddling and installation with transcoding support libraries on Fedora.
  • Other Download helpers for video still broken or not updated yet.
  • Tab Mix Plus not updated yet

So I used Quantum for a little over a month now, and I don't like it. It frequently crashes and takes so many resources inefficiently that it frequently slows down (on a system that should easily knock it out of the park). I'm back with Chrome now.

I have an absolute noob browser question. What exactly, if anything, is shared between different browsers on the same computer/user? For example, say I use Chrome for "regular" stuff, like checking out news sites, browsing Reddit, arguing politics on FoH. But then I use Firefox to fuel my interracial, midget, anime porn fetish. Will the websites I use Chrome for know what sort of a degenerate fuck I am, or not? I.e. is it actually pointless using different browsers, or is there logic behind it?

Use incognito mode, check Do Not Track, use Adblock Origin and either NoScript/uMatrix if you really want to cover your illicit browsing habits. Between Chrome/Firefox there wouldn't be any crossover "knowledge" to be gained by using one instead of the other. Out on the internet though Google and other companies keep track of shit you look at no matter what browser you use.

The server could still figure out it was you with a reasonably high level of certainty. For example it would be able to match your public IP address and cross-reference that with user agent strings to group your activity together. You can also use IP address to determine a lot of other information including geo coordinates and even street address.

You're better off using Tor Browser if you want to better cover your ass. Not the best way, but it will cover your tracks better.

youtube-dl is a great command line replacement for the still broken VideoDownload Helper plugin in Firefox 59 on Linux. youtube-dl is faster, more stable and handles anything and everything from twitch-tv streams to youtube. No more crashes or transcoding errors, has nice command line options for video quality. Well worth checking out if youre on Linux.
