Every single source of calorie burn/expenditure on every single app/smart device/exercise bike/whatever is VASTLY overestimating how many actual kcal you're burning during a cardio session.

Pedaling on a stationary bike for half an hour is not burning 250kcal. Unless you're a semi-professional athlete your calorie burn is not even something you should be paying attention to if you want to lose weight. You just need to eat less - the exercise is to improve your health in other ways.

I'm just confused what your point is? No need to take it personal man.

If you just want us to be more aware that it is difficult for fat people to stop eating, and it's an addiction, thats fine, I agree. I don't understand what you want.

Sorry that hurts your feelings man, it's not the intent.
All I'm annoyed by is the weirdly selective lack of inference. I'm attempting to discuss, not compel, but this isn't on topic anymore, so I'll stop shitting up the thread with it.

yeah, thats also a thing. I've tried to look into getting concrete answers how they are calculated, and not found good answers. seems to be time+heartrate calc. but im not sure. and yeah, questions of body weight/muscle mass, etc...

but for the second part. eating less/cal in is a lot easier to measure yes. but, building muscle dramatically increases daily calorie burn. it burns calories during the activity, it burns calories for 3 days after rebuilding muscle tissue, and burns calories from just maintaining the muscle.

And no, dont need to even go crazy. 20m/day. squats, lunges, planks, pushups. will burn calories like crazy.

Again, once you start tracking it, you can figure this shit out.

Go look at what I posted. On memorial day (May25th or so) I hopped on the scale and was 218. Heaviest I've ever been. Not having it. Decided I was getting back to tracking calories and getting back to lifting. I do pull/push/legs/rest. So I lift 5-6 days a week. Each day is 7 exercises, let's call it average of 3x12 for sets (compounds are less - 5x5 or 4x6, but most accessories are in that neighborhood).

I work in a warehouse. I walk a lot. I don't do labor anymore because I'm in management, but I walk the entire building multiple times a day. I walk the yard multiple times a day. So right around may 20th is when I decided to get back to serious about my health.

I track all my food on almost every day. (App says 52 days in a row now). I hit most workouts (had to take a 3 day break a week ago because I was exhausted, but that's it). I weigh myself at the same time and at the same condition every day (after the morning piss, before I eat/drink anything).

Yes, you can see large fluctuations in my weight, but the trend line tells the story. The trend line + your calorie intake gives you an idea of your expenditure. Is it a perfect? No. Does it need to be? No. You just need a fucking ballpark. Maybe I'm at 2600, and maybe my tracking is off by some vegetables here and there. But it doesn't matter, because I know how much I burn, and I know how much I eat, so I know how much I need to eat to lose weight. Period. And as you can see from the data, it's doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing. I'm eating less than my expenditure and I'm losing weight.

Like I said, it's not complicated. You just need to put in the effort

Macrofactor represent, I love that app even though it took a hobby away from me. I used to do my own spreadsheets and there is no way I can compete.

I don't know how I feel about Jeff Nippard, influencer-wise.

But I know exactly how I feel about his app, and it's fucking spectacular. Just to test it, I weighed out all the ingredients in some pulled chicken nachos, then I put them on a plate and snapped a picture.

It estimated it 3 calories off of the weight. Total game changer. You don't even have to try, or own a scale. Literally no excuse. Take a fucking picture of your food and improve your life as a result.

I think it's helpful for the truly sedentary person for no other reason than it gets you moving. An object in motion... etc etc. My overweight sister started like 15 minutes a day on a peloton, 6 months later her apartment's never been cleaner and she's out and about doing stuff.

And over the course of the day now we've come full circle back to the only people losing weight through exercise are semi-pro athletes doing 6 hours of high intensity exercise daily. Also people who were arguing that 150 calorie deficits a day is nothing and then showing 9lbs of weight loss over 3 months with just a 240 deficit (and i'd imagine it's recomp to muscle in there too and not just weight loss since we were talking about deficits from just lifting weights)...

Amazing.

It's simple logic. You said "Overeating kills more people than drugs"

Equating any death of a fat person to "overeating is the cause of death" is the same bullshit they used to "covid is the cause of death" anybody who died who possibly maybe had covid at some point. People die. All the time. Fat people, skinny people, junkies, drug free people. Everybody.

If you want to make a proper comparison to drug overdoses then go with people who eat so much in one sitting that it actually kills them (stomach explodes or whatever would happen if you could actually eat yourself to death).

As far as the societal issues of obesity, I don't know that there actually is a solution. Modern world living equals easy access to food combined with very little demand for physical activity and very high demand for physical inactivity. Not a good combo for maintaining healthy weights and/or fitness levels. I, like you, will not be surprised to see all the lawsuits and problems with glp-1s coming out in the future just like they do with every other single pharmaceutical (whether justified or not). I don't think putting the entire country on Ozempic is any sort of solution and even if glp-1s are miracle drugs with literally no negatives, there's no way we get the entire country mandated to hop on them.
Have you seen kids eat candies until they puke?
What advice would you give someone that destroyed their lives with drugs?

Why can you not give that same advice to fat people? It's the same problem, no?
Refined suggar can seriously be considered as a drug. And you'll see kids overdose on it, eating candies until they puke.
You can’t stop eating food but many people are addicted to refined sugar and ultra processed food. Get any obese people to stop both and they'll thin out, period.

In relation to what? I could go back and reread something I suppose but i'd like to at least know what i'm supposedly getting wrong with this blanket statement since you quoted me covering like 5 different things about the loop of this thread.

I have not, but i'm sure it happens. I used to eat a ton of candy but never puked from it, personally. I'm not saying food/sugar can't be 'addictive' or anything of the sort? I argued that "eating too much" does not kill more people than heroin/whatever other hard drugs you want to throw in the mix.

Obesity kill people by one or two order of magnitude more than most other drugs. Sugar and ultra processed food are addictive they cause obesity, among other things,.which is one of the primary cause of loss of health expectancy in the USA.

It’s not as impressive as some drugs,.but you will see adults lying about what they eat, like alcoholic do, trying to pretend they don’t eat much when around other people. They will get fat to the point it affects their social life, and it will massively hurt their health, to the point of being unable to properly operate, again like alcohol.

I'm really not seeing the difference,.and obesity kills roughly as much as alcohol, and disable people in similar amounts....and even more people are disabled by their weight than by alcohol.

I think I was dehydrated as I settled back to about 177 after being down to 172 Monday. Didn't really increase my caloric intake (outside of eating real tacos one day).

At this point I am much less concerned with number and more concerned with how my body looks and I feel. I feel like I smashed my goal of 185.

yes. overeating is 100% an addiction.

I can certainly attest to getting a craving and driving to the store just for some cookies or icecream. as noted, thats blatantly addiction behaviour.

there is complexity here. as first of all, most people think of addiction purely from the idea of the thing itself. the drug is addictive, caffeine is addictive, sugar is addictive. but its more then just that. there is also psychology. pavlovian responses, repetitive behaviours. personality types. many people can't break the conditioning due to addictive personalities. even if the break one addiction, they just swap it to something else.
this is often why exercise is "good". adrenaline/endorphins. if you can swap drug/eating addictions for exercise addiction.. its.. .at least slightly better.. but, thats also where eating disorders come in. bulemia/anorexia. that addictive personality type being applied in the other direction.

the foods themselves also trigger endorphins, and other addictive chemical responses. same with routines. if you get into the habit of 8pm icecream. and then try to stop. you will find yourself craving ice cream at 8pm for months after.
