yeah, I watched mortismals dq 1/2 remake vid.
And I find the story changes to dq 1-3 unforgivable. I won't touch them.
dq 1 by modern standards is odd yeah. its more a kin to a puzzle game, then an RPG as we consider them these days.
Hah that's funny. I just finished playing through the original Dragon Quest 1 on my retro handheld. I think it was the only Nintendo game I had for a while back in the day. I really enjoyed it. There's something about the simplicity of it that I like. I'd like to try the remake at some point and see how it compares.
DragonQuest 1 and 2 2d-HD Remake.
DragonQuest 1 sucks. They did what they could to make it not suck but it still sucks. It will always suck. The only reason anyone played it in the first place was because there was nothing else on nintendo quite like it at the time. I was afraid it would suck before I purchased this and yes it does suck. Apparently 2 is much, much better if for no other reason than the multiple characters. I wanted to support this type of remake as there are many games that could benefit from it (Destiny of an Emperor and Inindo: Way of the Ninja for example) and I really enjoyed the DQ3 remake.
I just finished S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky, and it was super tough at times playing on Master difficulty because the AI is so relentless.
Now I’m starting Final Fantasy XII International: Zodiac Job System on PS2, which I’ve heard is an improved version compared to the vanilla release.

Also, it’s been 15 years since I played ALttP, but this game feels far less challenging. I assume the limitations of the gameboy cartridge is showing through there into the remake.

Really enjoyed that game. A lot. Some of the final dungeons are pretty challenging as far as puzzles go, sometimes.
I wish Nintendo would port / remaster A Link Between Worlds (the sequel to A Link to the Past) on Switch/Switch 2, it was a really great game but it was only on 3DS.

I’m playing the Switch remake of Link’s Awakening. Somehow I never played that.
It’s a cute looking game. I’m only 2-3 dungeons in. What it made me realize is Nintendo is really missing out on an opportunity to make some 2-D HD entries to this series. The Zelda focused game fits here. But I really think the art style sucks or is just too cute and if you went back to A Link to the Past it would feel to me closer to a slightly less cute style.

I think LBW has a better art style if you brought that to switch levels. Maybe. They really need to use that engine to remake Oracle of Ages/Seasons next, and Link Between Worlds.
Or just make a remaster of LBW. Lot of 3DS things could use a straight up-res onto Switch just to make them more playable.
If LTTP got remade, I'm not sure if I'd rather see it in the LA Remake engine or an HD-2D style.
What I'm playing: Metroid Prime 4, unfortunately

Go kill that dragon. Farm some runes. Get two big fucking swords and enjoy.I finally got around to Elden Ring, it’s pretty unsatisfying , very vindictive, does not give accurate visual feedback for “learning”, and obnoxiously, I still keep trying to find a way to enjoy it.
Get gud, just means rerunning the same encounter over and over, until you’ve mastered the endless series of quicktime events (that’s what they are).
the alternative to "getting gud", is finding a way to completely nullify the quick time events, or getting lucky as the AI can lead to completely different outcomes.
Throw in some dogshit platforming, it’s not designed for. I will say that of all the stupid horses in games, I actually like the horse in this one.
For some reason I keep trying to make it work….like I’ll get a build and it will feel very good for a bit, and then run into something that just hard counters it and makes me feel weak again, the dungeons just seem to exist to throw in some new gimmick to catch you off guard. Constant attempts at ganking you, and I’m talking about PVE here, I really have no desire to play it online. There’s a gotcha moment with an enemy behind a wall, fine check your corners, but if you dodge roll the enemy that you have to pass, you fall of a cliff…like you have to take these deaths, getting good means replaying over and over again until you get the outcome you want, you never really feel stronger…some random peon mob can just stagger lock you and hit you 20 something times, or you get jammed up against a wall, your weapon deflect against the wall, but the mob with a 500 foot dildo spear, clips right through. It feels like you never get that feeling of level growth progression, and clearly they balance this game in such away that they go, ok this is reasonably doable on the first try with X health, so lets player start with X-200 health or something.
I played DS3 , and I was ok at it—I don’t know maybe I got my fill there.
Going to just jack my armor to max poise and run the cleanrot knight sword I picked up after 2 minutes of farming…maybe that will scratch the itch, I can’t seem to reach
