Go kill that dragon. Farm some runes. Get two big fucking swords and enjoy.
Lions Claw, yeah I know. Then some little stupid shit will sneak up around the corner while your distracted/half AFK dealing with something in real world, and start shanking your asshole and now your stun locked.

It's not that I can't make progress.

Like I just did the Radahn Starscourge fight, first attempt I get fucking headshotted from across the god damn map (what the fuck is it with like ranged ballistia that have a two mile range, and crazy tracking, how is it fun to be assailed like that?). Ok so you need your horse, which I can't use while pressing the teleport marker in the first place anyway, thanks for making that clear.

Second attempt, I get up there, dismount and start buffing, while he's running around like a clown, and go into my R2 > R1 spam, he get's almost dead already, does his little comet bullshit, that I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing (looking all over the sky apparently), blows me the fuck up. Fine, now I know about that gimmick.

Several more times, the guys rolling around on roller blades, I can't line up with him to get my tiny little sword to do it's thing, I'm chasing this giant fucking neon purple, red...whatever the fuck around like an asshole, I can't even really see him because the camera/his proportions make it all a pain in the ass. what am I doing, how is this fun or exhilarating? It's fucking annoying.

and I get the win, but it's janky as fuck, utterly inconsistent, and completely unsatisfying, like one attempt blasting through heal pots, not getting to get under him to do any damage at all. Next attempt get him down to a sliver of health in like 45 seconds.

You're compelled to play the game with the internet entirely, either walkthrough/video guide/ or stupid graffiti strewn about, there's no attempt at making a dungeon that you can scrutinize and make decisions about yourself.

Scenario: ...the graffiti is telling you the game is about to set up a stupid gank on you...like you enter a blind area, you can't know ahead of time what's there, you have to roll immediately or you get blown up. Does that teach you to be ready to roll the second you touch ground? No...then you're going to roll right off a cliff. Without depending on the graffiti or the internet, there's no way you'd know you're about to get fucked, and it's not teaching you to be more observant or play a certain way, because it can go in any random direction. Like I didn't actually die here, but the whole time I'm thinking, this is just designed to make me lose, not to challenge me. The only thing this game seems to make me feel a lot of, is disappointing frustration when I lose because either I didn't press the right button at the right time, or I thought I did but apparently the game disagreed...Up to a moderate amount of satisfaction, where I feel kinda strong until I get countered...Either I didn't have the big bonk stick out when I should have, or I did but I needed my toothpick, or really just something falls out of the sky, or I roll into some debris/crap that I get stuck on...so on...It's mild frustration, with very little satisfaction when it does go smooth.

Dude this genre might not be your thing.

Can I interest you in some Concord? Or perhaps Dragon Age: Veilguard?

D4 via blizzard creds - I did not spend real money on this, wrapping up links awakening when I decide I’d rather sit on the couch, and super smash brothers ultimate is the current kids time game. Never played smash before. I don’t care enough to git that gud like I used to street fighter, but it’s a fun thing to casually play.

My 4 year old wants to play TMNT Shredders Revenge. At this point I’m just maxing characters. I’ve played the shit out of this with them.

To be honest it probably isn’t, I knew it wouldn’t be a popular opinion

I’m outside in the cold knocking a rock out of the impeller of my snowblower, trying to figure out the best way to get at it, and I’m having more fun with that, then thinking about the game , I just realize every fight is going to be rolling in the “correct” direction, or avoiding “ambushes”. I was having much more fun with replaying FFT remaster than this *shrug*

Harry Potter was free, so I played through it. It looked really amazing on the 5090, and I enjoyed it for what it was (though a touch too easy).

Some of the characters, villains and people written in just for conversational conflict were WAY too one dimensional (ie Anne's uncle). Good story, but had bad writing in parts. Constantly talking up the obvious trans character and saying how loved they were by everybody was clearly shoe-horned in by activists and felt way out of place in a wizard game (and they still wanted to boycott it lol).

Somebody bought me a Star Citizen starter kit, but apparently the end of year patch broke the rest of the game. /shrug

I finally got around to Elden Ring, it’s pretty unsatisfying , very vindictive, does not give accurate visual feedback for “learning”, and obnoxiously, I still keep trying to find a way to enjoy it.

Get gud, just means rerunning the same encounter over and over, until you’ve mastered the endless series of quicktime events (that’s what they are).

the alternative to "getting gud", is finding a way to completely nullify the quick time events, or getting lucky as the AI can lead to completely different outcomes from one attempt to the next.

Throw in some dogshit platforming, it’s not designed for. I will say that of all the stupid horses in games, I actually like the horse in this one.

For some reason I keep trying to make it work….like I’ll get a build and it will feel very good for a bit, and then run into something that just hard counters it and makes me feel weak again, the dungeons just seem to exist to throw in some new gimmick to catch you off guard. Constant attempts at ganking you, and I’m talking about PVE here, I really have no desire to play it online. There’s a gotcha moment with an enemy behind a wall, fine check your corners, but if you dodge roll the enemy that you have to pass, you fall of a cliff…like you have to take these deaths, getting good means replaying over and over again until you get the outcome you want, you never really feel stronger…some random peon mob can just stagger lock you and hit you 20 something times, or you get jammed up against a wall, your weapon deflect against the wall, but the mob with a 500 foot dildo spear, clips right through. It feels like you never get that feeling of level growth progression, and clearly they balance this game in such away that they go, ok this is reasonably doable on the first try with X health, so lets player start with X-200 health or something.

I played DS3 , and I was ok at it—I don’t know maybe I got my fill there.

Going to just jack my armor to max poise and run the cleanrot knight sword I picked up after 2 minutes of farming…maybe that will scratch the itch, I can’t seem to reach

Quicktime events? You don't need to parry things. I went through the whole game without parrying the first time.

Sounds like how things go when someone plays their first Fromsoft game, they often hate it for the first ten hours until it finally clicks, and then the entire Fromsoft catalog suddennly opens up to them.

Except you played Dark Souls 3 and that was fine? It's a more streamlined, linear experience than ER, but ER has so much more to do, it's ridiculous.

Bosses can do some obnoxious attack chains, that's my only complaint about ER. Just use pets to balance it out. Jellyfish is a good distraction early to mid game.

It's pretty much the best game of the 2020s thusfar by a wide margin. However people new at it often don't like it. At the very least try to appreciate what a work of art it is visually and world-design wise.

It took me a while to realize that rolling was placing me in danger more often than not and should be used decisively or as an emergency maneuver, not a main strategy. Either my timing was off because ER uses delayed attacks (holding at the apex of a swing then smashing down). Turning off target lock and running away to reposition saved me countless times.

Voyce Voyce I only Picard because I was of a similar mindset when I first took the venture into Fromsoft"s catalogue. Believe me, I understand many of the frustrations you express. Stay the path if you can, there's so much to potentially enjoy.

If you're on PC feel free to summon me for a few runs, I don't mind fighting a few bosses. We can even Duel to sharpen your skills and practice. I can drop you some items too.

Playing Metroid Prime….1 remastered… its been forever and I have forgotten how much this game is really a great jump from 2d to 3d fps…and it saddens how bad apparently He new one has dropped the ball… prime 1 is essentially super Metroid in 3d fps…music and bad guy callbacks etc.

The 3d/remake links awakening engine is trash… in its performance … it lagged and stuttered worse than the OG gameboy version.

The surround blur was more of a performance need than a visual “keep the screen to screen” style.

The princess zelda game that used it- showed they improved it but it still had issues… it was a Nintendo b-team production…. So it would be nice to bring it to remake LTTP- it’s needing more polish…but I agree LBW would be better fit in the visual style the engine already is at. To me LTTP should be more…real…vs the others

I still have to play Echoes of Wisdom. It's one of my four remaining Zeldas, which are the same four year after year now, in my 22 year quest to beat all the existent Zelda games just once.

Prime 4 really can't hold a candle to Prime 1. That game is one of the best of all time. Prime 4 hasn't been able to hold my interest for longer than about an hour at a time and it's more of an obligation than anything else. I think I'm around halfway on that one (just got the grab and pull lasso from the ice zone, how far along is that?) and hoping I can knock it out by the end of the year. Worried about the green crystal farm being a huge thing.

Playing Granblue Fantasy Relink on pc. Main story was not bad, but really felt like it was missing a summary of the first game which was, i believe, a mobile game? You can't really expect your audience to have played that shit to understand why all these characters are together already. Needed a quick prologue chapter where you play through an abbreviated version of the first game. Other than that, the story was serviceable.

Trying to get through the postgame grind now, but a little stuck on Bahamut Versa in order to get to proud, it's such a dead game that there's zero groups at all for anything, even Slimpede, so it's impossible to get dalia badges and pretty damn hard to get Damage Cap V sigils.

I've been putting off buying Elden Ring for years. It's on sale a decent amount right now and I'm tempted to buy it, but I feel like I'm going to end up like you and it's just...not for me.

I haven't played a lot of the souls games, and I'm not very good. That being said, it a pretty amazing game, especially the first time. I also don't mind looking up ways to cheese fights that I find annoying. To me the most fun of the game is just the whole exploratory aspect and the world. If you stick with it though you do end up finding yourself getting better and it's not as frustrating, but there's definitely some areas and bosses that walk the line between being challenging and just not fun.

If it's on a heavy sale right now it's worth picking up. I don't know if there are mods or anything, but I'm sure there are ways to make it easier if you wanted to just see everything.

I'm not the twitchiest of gamers and I enjoyed it. I say it leans more to people who are explorer/complitionist types though if you're good you can also bypass most of the game as 80% of it can probably be considered optional assuming you can beat bosses without leveling up.

Anybody playing this Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection thing? They just dropped physical editions, PS5 is $50 and Switch 2 is $60 (lolol). Thinking about getting the PS5 version, if it's actually worthwhile.

Friend of mine has Dragon Quest 1+2 HD2D on Switch 2 and I have it on PS5. We compared games / stats the other day and I was surprised to find that the PS5 version looks way nicer. Considering it's a basic 2D game. PS5 version has more vibrant colors, you can see the detail and fibers of the rugs, etc. And it costs $10 less too.

I’m trying to enjoy it, despite the fact that I stand by my opinion that it’s filled with janky mechanics (things that haven’t changed since I played DS3) , and the game just wants to punish you, and seemingly rewards you for exploiting or “cheesing” it by beating encounters with unbalanced mechanics /overleveling/ picking up endgame gear and upgrading it the first chance you get, dropping a DOT on the boss and running around in a circle. Summoning ashes/mimic tears….I have gotten pretty good at convincing dragons, death rite birds and Night Calvary to fall off cliffs. Most of these victories don’t feel like you’re playing a game though.

The appeal is you pick up some fancy pokey thing, and it does something really cool, but the game when all is said and done comes down to positioning, if the boss is directly in front of you, you’re probably in trouble, if you’re to the side of the boss, under the boss, behind the boss, you’re probably good. For dungeons they try and find ways to ambush you so you panic roll into a wall/get stuck in a corner/fall of a cliff. Dying isn’t really a punishment, so they kinda just expect you to become ok with it, but no, I’ve played enough games, I don’t feel like dying over and over again until I just scrape by is fun, nor do I find it fun when I just demolish everything without any challenge, and there is rarely an inbetween, and the AI can vary so dramatically, even from just one attempt to the next

I am still trying to find that one weapon that will make me forget all the jank, we’ll see
