That's where my comment about feint attacks probably comes from. Sure, I could memorize every boss and dodge roll at the exact time. I'm having trouble connecting Elden Ring game of the decade/ever doing it, and people throwing Claire Obscur out the window because you had to do a parry QTE.

Yeah, and the Witcher 3 had some of the worst combat I ever played and I don’t understand how anyone could get past that. Yet here we are.

Elden Ring is one of the greatest games ever made, and you just don’t get it.

Witcher 3 also had questionable game play, but its story/lore more then made up for it. Both had great worlds built which seems to be rare from devs these days so worth appreciating. If you can't get past Witcher 3 game play, someone put together a nicely edited story series. I highly suggest watching.

Combat in any souls game can be an insanely frustrating experience. The hang time along with the feints is infuriating.

The visuals and atmosphere in Elden Ring are some of the best, maybe the best, I've ever seen/felt in a video game.

It isn't a fast paced game at all, and I usually hate Souls types of games.

I'm not very good with these types of games, and refunded it the first go around. My first big mistake then was playing it with a keyboard. It really is meant to be played with a controller. Combat is a LOT better with a controller.

Beyond that, the game is all about exploration and taking your time doing things. The difficulty certainly makes the world more immersive and interesting, and exploration is rewarding. Hell, I've spent entire play sessions derping around in castles and the like, only to discover something else to do.

I struggled with it for a handful of hours and not liking it a lot, but I pushed on and went from a peasant in rags to being a fucking demigod. It is in my top 10 best games of all time list.

These capture the newbie experience pretty well

I don't play roll-on-the-ground simulators either.

So I was watching Rep Burchett (or something like that, very redneck congressman that talks UFO stuff) on the news show with that Aussie or Kiwi guy whatever. Probably saw it in MusicForFish MusicForFish 's thread. Anyway they were talking about underwater UFOs for half an hour, and it made me load up terror from the deep, xcom 2.

That game is so brutally unfair. I love it. Terror mission on a boat with those cannibal yellow lizard men and a dozen of the flying mind control bastards that explode like an alien grenade when they die. I have no armor and a bunch of pistols. :emoji_laughing:

Keep going, there's more cool stuff to see. The last few areas of ER are the best, IMO. It's an optional postgame super-dungeon, but Miquella's Haligtree is one of the best dungeons I've played in any game. It's a real D&D style crawl. If you dropped that place into any of the four Souls games, I think it'd be the top dungeon in that game immediately.

Have a soft spot for Farum Azula and the Mountaintops, as well. Then again I'm a big fan of snowy zones in games (there aren't enough of them).

Played the Deadspace remake over the break, having never played any of them when they were first released I didn’t really know what to expect. Loved almost every minute of it, the setting, the constant tension, and how satisfying it can be to get a couple of weapon upgrades that turn you into a necromorph murdering machine. Even did a NG+ to collect all of the marker fragments, but NG+ loses a lot of the tension since you have to be pretty bad to die (at least to combat) even just blitzing through.

Also started on Indiana Jones and the Great circle, love it so far. The combat isn’t great, but the story, setting, characters, etc. feel like classic Indiana jones. If it was a movie I’d put it behind last crusade and raiders, but I haven’t finished yet so that may change.

Deadspace is top tier survival horror and genuinely scared the fuck out of me, the atmosphere is so good. Since you have legendary levels of bravery go play Subnautica, the only game that is scarier.

You ought to pick up the second and third ones of dead space. The whole trilogy is pretty good, and I think the second might be my favorite. I'm sure they're cheap as hell right now.

I thought about it but wasn’t sure how well they would hold up. I probably will once I finish Indy, but going to be working a shit ton when I finally go back so might be a bit. I’ve read that 2 and 3 stray away from the survival/horror side and lean more into the action side, but will check it out still.

DS2 feels a liiiiittle more action-y than DS1 and DS1:remake, but its back and forth. There's some spooky/horror stuff, but then there's the "hey here's a dark corridor and a necromorph gangbang team".

DS3 goes more into what feels like a military/buddy combat game, but the DLC feels like an apology to tradtional horror lovers ("sorry about the main game!").

Kaige Kaige summed it up pretty well. They're both fun games though. Graphically I'm sure they're still good but I haven't played the remastered first one, but they are some of the best survival horror games that I've played. If you only have to spend 10 or 15 bucks for both of them or something, I don't know what they cost, might as well continue the story all the way through. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

From what I could tell the deadspace 1 remake didn’t do too well which indicates they won’t be doing the other 2. The remake is graphically pretty great, but the other two aren’t that old so I’m sure they will be fine

Like 99% sure they are on gamepass so it’s free for me. It’s just finding the time, and it’s time that I basically have to send the kids off to do other stuff because they definitely aren’t old enough for that type of shenanigans.

They're all worth your time if you played the first and enjoyed it as much as you said you did. Like all games they might have their high and low points but once you play the second one you'll end up wanting to play the third. I'm just kind of sad they didn't expand more on the mausoleum ships and stuff they talk about in the second one. There are a lot of pretty interesting ways they could have gone with the game.

If you're playing them for the first time I guarantee you'll be satisfied.
