i'm an assault enjoyer, so I've been pretty happy with scatter lasers and kind of stopped there to diversify my tech.

i forgot how early rocket boys are neutered in long war

hilariously, i gave away all my sectoids to various countries and...don't have enough to do even an autopsy, and i haven't seen a sectoid in several missions.

This is a kind of mix between a simplified civ and roguelite game.

You have the usual world map, with capturing tiles, and various resources for bonuses etc, with the addition of a meta-game upgrade tree that unlocks new bonuses and features, as well as a set of 'heroes' that you can equip to get various bonuses and special abilities. There's a wide roster of unique heroes like Washington or Midas that each have a special unique passive ability that alters how the game works. The heroes can be leveled up, combined with some things you find later, and there's three quick swap slots for full hero layouts if you want to say, set up one set for early game, one for mid and one for later, or have one set for combat, and one set of expansion, that kind of thing.

While it's technically in the incremental territory, it is very much not a 'set something up and wait 4 days' kind of thing - at most parts of the game leaving it unattended quickly ends in disaster, even if it does have some rudimentary automation ability ( uses in-game resources ).

There's various 'ascensions' in the meta-tree which, unlike the typical 'reset to zero but with +1 gooderer' actually drastically change the way the game is played afterwards. Most of the recent negative reviews are about the highest level one of those, which has a kind of nasty difficulty jump if you fall for the bait that it continually pushes on you during the second highest level one.

The campaign mode is a strong recommend from me - adventure mode is also available, I didn't like that one as much, but people who like more consistent challenge than power fantasy may be into that one ( it revolves around randomly generated sets of worlds that have their own meta-tree, with only relatively minor bits of fully persistent upgrades available across worlds ).

Played the new Starfox (Switch 2).

Graphics are really great, gameplay is smooth, they improved pretty much everything (not a big surprise considering the original was on N64), and added a lot of cinematics that give a little more lore and worldbuilding around the characters mostly.

It's still the same game as far as number of planets or missions goes, so the campaign is a matter of around 1 to 2 hours, but there's like in the original game multiple paths to the end, and a good and bad ending.

They added challenges to each planet that you can do separately from the campaign, that unlock more lore in the menu about enemies and bosses, there's also detailed lore on each planet. Once you finish the normal challenges, there's even more challenges (different ones) to do on expert difficulty.

There's also an apparently very fun multiplayer online mode, I say apparently because I didn't play it but from what I've seen and heard from various youtubers I follow, it's a blast to play, but there's only 3 multiplayer maps so it's a little repetitive. It features a 4-player Starfox team vs a 4-player Star Wolf team competing on various objectives, on various maps with environmental hazards or challenging terrain to navigate.

All in all, if you actually enjoyed Starfox games, it's worth it because it's the best Starfox game as it's very faithful to Starfox 64 but improves it on every level. However, if you're just gonna run the campaign once and be done with it, it's not worth it due to the price/length ratio. This game is meant to be played a lot of times and honestly, it doesn't bother me at all. I'm usually the kind of player that plays through a game once and rarely replays it but with this one I've been picking up my Switch 2 every now and then to just replay the campaign and try to unlock score medals or try to not lose any lives on X mission, it's just a fun game to play.

So don’t shoot me but I missed Bioshock. The original. And the subsequent sequels. Having hard time getting time on ps5 to play the Batman Lego game, so reverted back to PC. About 3 hours into Bioshock one. I regret never touching this. MMO period.

Bioshock 1 and infinite are worth a play through for sure. Absolutely loved those games the first play through even though they just straight lied about the gameplay in infinite before launch.

Rocket boys just have to be built around, they are plenty powerful even at low/mid ranks. Just have to pick up the Rocket aim perks, and be smart with movement and use steady aim. Don’t expect to move THEN rocket that turn.

i kind of felt like bioshock infinite....that maybe they got halfway through development and then inserted a second story ontop of the first to make it not garbage.

in a way i felt like they were kind of deceitful about bioshock 1 in a way. i found way less synergy in reality than i expected to find or tried (like the lightning in water etc) and the "be bad for rewards or good for challange (then good had plenty good rewards as well).
