Car UI’s are a point for me. I do not like android or apple auto things

I loved the Volvo infotainment in my XC90… it was ground up their product..then 2022? The moved to an android based version- where they emulated their UI style and look, but used android as the OS…it became junk.

My MachE fauxstang has ford sync… and I actually like using it better than my apple car play… however ford wants me to pay to use my “advanced” navigation…. So….i may get used to CarPlay.

There's no need to apologize. I assure you that your opinion on my car will never hurt my feelings. I ran into a guy on the BMW subreddit who was talking about his Taycan looking cooler than some other car and I mentioned that 4 door Porsche will never look cool and he got very upset. People get very offended like they designed the car...

Modern MS Sync isn't bad. The original versions weren't horrible, but were primitive. I still remember when we got my wife's Escort in 2013 I am tinkering with it and see it has a wifi access point built in for some reason. I turn it on, connect, and run nmap. Dear fucking God..... I can tell you it was running Windows 2000 CE, and let's just say if I had wanted to violate it, it would have had little recourse but to lay back and enjoy. But I didn't want to break her car.

Now that same head unit is sitting in a box in my garage and I can't get the time/desire to tinker with it because it's so old. The Infotainment system in the caddy is the Cadillac Cue system. It's not hard to tell it's android based, but mine is also the 2017 model and doesn't support Android Auto or Carplay over wireless. I have read some articles about people jailbreaking and popping the bootloaders on them. So that might be a down the road project. Would love to be able to roll my own build and load it onto the system with the integrated access to the cars onboard systems.

I think the optimal system would be for auto manufacturers to build good built in systems, and have them ALSO have Carplay and Android Auto available. If they're systems are really good then people will use them instead. If they're bloated, less than optimal, and turn your car into a microtransaction/subscription hell that would make a mobile game maker envious well... that's your own fault.

A current system that both sucks and is “simple not over doing it” is Mazdas… either step forward and be a full fledged system with all the bells and whistles or step back and be old school classic necessities only.

I love that color.

I had totally the same thing years ago, totally (ok it wasn't as fun of a green color :p )

Also check out that peak early 2000s interior. I loved my police scanner and whatever that thing plugged into the OBD connector was called. I STILL get emails from that Tom Tom company. I have no idea how they are still in business, but apparently my 20 year old GPS monstrosity above the dashboard can longer fit modern map updates, oh no :*(

It was a police scanner. In some states, it would detect if the police shoulder mount repeater was close enough and warn you. Back when I first got it, it would pick up early cell phone conversations before those were digitized lol.

Think the m440i has a worn CV joint at the front right.

Kind of shit for not having 20.000 miles yet. Guess I'll have it looked at.

I thought this was the problem since when steering wheel was fully turned to one side, at low speeds I heard some cracking/knocking noise coming from the right front wheel.

Had car reviewed today and was told it is due to having xdrive + summer tires during a pretty cold season (we even have snow this year).

Pretty happy to hear that. Will mail garage notes of what they told me so I'm covered, just to be sure.

Ended my day with a nice drive including a bunch of nice snow drifts. Good times. So easy to put the car at a big angle and still correct it, no way I want winter tires.

Of course its because of having x-drive, you don't need cv joints if you have a rear wheel drive car (no axles in the front then). Tires don't make any difference to clunking sounds at full lock. Cold doesn't make any difference except that the grease in the CV joints doesn't work well when it's cold, causing exactly the clunking you're hearing.

It shouldn't be clunking at full lock.

I'm on my fourth set of CV Axles on the front end of my 2016 Subaru Crosstrek. I'm sitting at 184k miles too.

One of the ones I just put on is clunking as well, they just don't make shit to last. Also I either need a new accessories belt or a pulley, because at around 40mph something starts whining

I'm kind of torn at the moment...

Found a 2002 Firehawk that appears to be in good shape at a decent price. The 98-02 trans am's are my favorite car, they just look so good. 2026 k5 gt also looks pretty good, though, and it has all the fancy modern stuff like remote start/heated seats/can connect my phone for pandora and spotify/etc. and also would probably handle Ohio winters a bit better, but it's just about 40k vs 28k for the Firehawk I'm looking at. And on the 3rd side of the coin, my 2022 forte gt-line is still in pretty good shape (only 19k miles since most of the time I've had it I lived super close to work, now it's like 300-400 miles a week tho) and I only owe like $10.5k on it.

The smart choice would probably be to just stick with my current car but I dunno...

I love those Trans Am's too. However they are all plastic inside and most make a shit ton of noise. They also over heat fairly easily if you have a lot of traffic driving. Also they are a real bitch to work on. Spark plug change will probably take you a weekend.

28k for a fucking '02 Firehawk? Thing better have like 2k miles on it. They notoriously had lots of electrical problems too - with windows and lights.

Yeah, my first car was a 98 firebird (v6) and the window motors did like to die on that thing in the not extended time I had it for... 47k miles on this particular one, so not quite 2k but on the lower end. Definitely not a steal of a deal price, and the maintenance difficulties (finding parts for a 25 year old car that isn't made any more, too) is definitely also in the cons list of considerations.

You'll get sick of it within a week, and will kick yourself in the ass for getting it. Those things were rolling garbage heaps when new. I can't imagine what an old one would be like.

Is it a DSOM Firehawk? Since that is the best vehicle color ever produced, I might have to go with it, but I'm also a bit biased toward F-Bodies, as I have owned a few in the past as well. It's now a classic car with classic car prices so I guess the $28k shouldn't be surprising. While I haven't been in the market for a while now, I would guess that there should be plenty of aftermarket replacement parts still produced for it.

Driving a classic car is a bit of a lifestyle choice, where you are sacrificing comfort and putting in extra effort to drive a more unique vehicle that you love. It also hurts more when some fucknut runs into it, which is much more likely in the big cities.

I don't know how I feel about the KIAs. I guess they are an acceptable saloon car but they don't do anything for me. While the K5 looks slightly better, it certainly isn't worth paying anything to upgrade to it from what you already have (just based on looks).
