But you're right, I remember when I picked up my Caddy in 2018. First time I sat it in, and it smelled like a perfectly conditioned and worn in rawlings catching mitt. It was glorious. Since then (almost ten years ago now) the scent has faded some, and I find myself on an eternal quest for the leather cleaner/conditioner or spray that can bring that perfect scent back.
I might have to give that a shot. I've been through a few cleaning products for it. One thing i have thought about but it would be a beating would be to deep clean and condition it like I used to do my hockey pads (I goaltended, so those huge leg biscuits). And that was traditional saddle soap followed up with a rub down in mink oil.Don’t know about the scent but the Volvo OEM leather care and cleaning kit is very good. It’s a cleaner and conditioner 2 bottles.
Strangely enough, and I'm knocking on wood as I say this, the leather in my seats is in great shape. The only roughed up/scratched leather I have is on the door panel right where my hand hits it opening and closing the door. Apparently from incidental contact with my nails? Tiny little scratchesWell, you aren't going to get as new smell back. There are some very good products for leather that can renew them to as new but they have to be actual leather. As new in everything but smell.
This is used on very expensive cars and doesn't diminish their value. It can restore old shitty leather to as new. I've used it, and the results were far above amazing. Garbage leather to worn but excellent leather. It really is amazing when used on real leather. Also, their cleaning kit is fucking amazing. It is also excellent on household leather furniture. It will rejuvenate heirloom leathers like nothing else. And...not weird concoptopmtionized assortment of chemicals. Works same wonders on leather clothes. Jackets, boots. Shoes.
Sure, takes some elbow grease to get it all workings, but the pay off is huge.
I wish more high end cars did NOT have leather seats. It’s the worst material for a seat. Dash, door cards, that’s fine. Not seats.
In the summer it’s hotter than it needs to be. In the winter it’s cold. Its strength is that it’s durable, but it’s not ideal for comfort. Why?
I guess as a built for comfort not speed person - I love leather, I want my seat to be soft and comfy and nice - /real/ leather, or..actual leather...top grain leather whatever word today means ACTUAL TANNED AND DYED COW (ok that is super rare... tanned and painted cow..) is a great texture... its not random that it was and has been used forever..
But yes, it will naturally crease and look not-like-new and needs care and upkeep at, generally a higher frequency than the rest of the interior.
Now, for "performance" seats that you want to be grippy and bolstered etc... no clue, I am fat I hate those seats... fake leather is good because it can be tailored to a texture and feel and - is way way more resistant to creasing and ripping... but again I like the natural aging of leather... but to each their own. It just seems now days that you have all the options BUT real leather.

Back in the horse & buggy days, the driver’s seat was leather because it was out in the elements and he moved around a lot. The rich passengers sat on wool or cotton seats inside.
Somehow it just ended up that leather seats in a car meant “high end” but I’d wager that was fabricated to charge people more.
Never knew that was a thing. You would like the fancy wool Volvo seats![]()

I don't have room in my garage. There are other cars in there. Daily has to sit outside.Kept in a garage and occasionally conditioned it's great, left out in the elements it's truly awful. Quickly disintegrates, too.
You'd assume people buying high end luxury would first have a garage to keep it in, otherwise it's for letting people know you're a Inventor with money.

You made a sweeping generalization. It was wrong, so I pointed it out. Thanks for letting us know
