My status is more "Please don't send an IM unless it's an emergency, everything else please send an email."
I've got all the read receipt stuff turned off. What I'd really like to go back to are the days before we had an instant messenger at work. I find it way too distracting getting these stupid popups every 5 minutes with an expectation to respond immediately. Doubly sucks that I'm required to keep it open and be available for emergencies only to have it used for dumb shit 99% of the time. With emails I can look at things while on break from the task I'm trying to focus on.
What I really hate are the people who never respond after the hello. I get that from a few coworkers - they never respond with their actual question until I reply. Now I have to wait for them to type out the question instead of just replying with my answer and going on with my day.

If expectations are clearly communicated, I don't think what you want is unachievable. If someone is in a meeting, I have no expectation that they will respond. I'll leave them a message hope they get back to me before end of day.
If your colleagues are expecting you to respond despite you saying you won't immediately, that's on them. You do have to get back to them in a reasonable amount of time. What would you do with people that called you or stopped by your office?

if not reading the health problems thread, i had 2 kidney stones removed yesterday. they wrote me paper scripts. don't think anyone has giving me paper ones in years. they even asked me 4+ times what pharmacy i wanted to use.
we drop them off at cvs, 1 is for infection, the other norco. 30 mins later pharmacist calls. the norco script only has the hospital's address on it. guess by law, sch2 drugs need the doctor's.
family member took my packet to cvs, pharmacist called doctor's office, hospital, er and got nowhere. they said he was on the phone for over 30 mins.
doctor's office is closed today, his phone system sends me to some hospital person. he transfers me to a nurse. she transfers me to another nurse. who tells me to call the er. call hospital, she puts me through to er. they send me back to operator to page my doctor. operator sent me back to er. er then calls operator to straighten it out. back to operator, she then puts me on hold and talks to er again. my doctor is supposed to be on call, but showing off to the operator. she then puts me through my doctor's nurse, she has to contact the doctor. he had to call cvs personally.
this took around 90 mins. each time i talked to a nurse, they had to ask bunch of health questions and if i was suicidal etc.
everyone was really nice about. guess i am more rustled by the laws that made this so hard. the funniest chat was with an er guy, told him my script needed more info and he was "no problem". started doing some stuff, after tell him what it for, he goes "WHOAH, uh, uh we can't touch that"

If you want to get back at someone, fill out their personal info in one of those Solar Install aggregator sites. 20+ companies will be sold your info, and each of them will call you 5 times a day until the earth suffers a heat death and the oceans dry up.
Ask me how I know. I was all for installing solar to lower the electric bill, but the high pressure sales just felt so scammy I noped out. So did everyone else apparently as 100+ companies went under.

Last place I worked we did solar installs. Every bit of that business is scummy/scammy/sleezy as hell. I felt like I needed a shower just emailing them sometimes.
Back in the fax machine days we would get spam faxes for vacations etc. If they were dumb enough to leave a fax number back I'd send them our submittal catalogue over fax and about 2/3 of the way in it I would add a page 'Don't send me this crap anymore'. Btw, construction submittals are 100's of pages, usually 1-2 3" ring binders.

Mother fuckers went around the Friday before July 4th weekend and photographed everyone's boats and RVs and ATVs they were getting ready and tried to issue a citation to like 3/4 the neighborhood that their toys weren't in garages or behind fences.
The next HOA meeting went like this
