Wanted to see Project Hail Mary at the theater, in Imax (or equivalent). Next Sunday is my wedding anniversary so I asked my wife if she wants to go see it. Sure

Well here is where the jimmys get rustled.

Where we live there isn't any theater, much less one with Imax so you have to go to Las Vegas. We prefer to go to the theater at the Orleans Casino. It's off the strip so not usually as busy and it's got the big reclining seats. Also we planned to get dinner/lunch in the casino at the TGI-Fridays.

Go to set it up. Movie isn't showing there in Imax due to Super Mario. Also turns out the TGIF was shut down over a year ago due to the company filing bankruptcy. Guess we're doing something else for our wedding anniversary.

The Supergirl trailer...

James Gunn sure knows how to make a trailer. NYU film school used to (maybe they still do) have a class on making an effective film trailer.

But WTF;

1) How does Clark even know of his sister (cousin, whatever)?...
2) Do we really need to put an animal in jeopardy? (and isn't that dog a SUPER DOG-- wasn't that established in the last movie)?
3) if WE HAVE TO, can we just make it like John Wick and have her kill everyone and everything involved with dog torture/muder?
4) I thought Krypto was Clark's Dog?
5) We have THREE Days to find a cure (it says so on the Golden Compass watch)?
6) The preview is telling us there will be consequences for moral crimes (murder and hurting dogs, right)? But then states (IN THE TRAILER) "Revenge. It won't take your pain away."
7) Why are 14 year olds hanging out in bars?
8) What sort of dialogue is "He murdered my innocent family?" It's not enough to say "he murdered my family?" I guess it wouldn't work to state, "He murdered my guilty, shameful, pathetic, evil family..."
9) Where does James Gunn find all his tunes? I want to subscribe to that Sirius channel.

OMG - there is no way this movie won't suck when the trailer makes ZERO sense internally... (and it's a GOOD trailer).

You didn't even mention Aqua Man. fat, space aqua man?

so i bought a car from a relative, its a prius prime, a nice little economy car for the family. They sold it to me under market value.

I ended up having to pay use tax when transferring the title. Had I bought the car on paper for 500$ more there would have been only use tax on the sale value as opposed to the fair market value which can only be calculated/appraised by licensed dealerships.

So I ended up having to spend 2.3k on the title transfer/registration. I had the money but it wasnt what I was expecting to spend thats for sure.

What the fuck is that shit? What state charges several thousand dollars tax on a used car sale?

Is this whole world just a crooked shithole where everyone just tries to scam everyone else 24-7?

WA State. I bought the car in CA and drove it back. CA has use tax but has an exemption for sales among family, however WA does not so I got the shit end of the stick lol.

and their licensing is done by a private business that gives no fucks and seems to have a permanent no bid contract with the state so they are rather predatory.

When my sister got a car from a family member in TX, it was a $10 tax, but both parties had to be present at the tax office.

I ended up having to pay use tax when transferring the title. Had I bought the car on paper for 500$ more there would have been only use tax on the sale value as opposed to the fair market value which can only be calculated/appraised by licensed dealerships.

So what did you actually buy it for and how much did you claim you bought it for? Sounds like you just didn't do the research and figure out you needed to write $500. I bought a boat from a friend ages ago and he gave me a receipt for $100 so I'd only have to pay taxes on that much.

It sure feels like that sometimes. Its just I keep finding a new scam around every corner, and everyone just standing around agreeing with it "oh yeah sure this is totally reasonable, just how the world works". Its like I knew the world was mostly scams and bullshit but the world just keeps finding new ways to surprise me with increasingly ridiculous crooked bullshit.

It is a very twilight zone feeling and it happens a lot.

When I moved from FL to GA, registering my car in GA i ended up paying an additional $800 or so dollars? It was already a 4 year old car at the time.
Moving back from GA to FL, like $80 for the sticker and a new tag.

Not gonna share those details but yeah, I should have done more research for sure. Either way its fucked man.

I would have revised the sale documents to avoid it but the relative that sold me the car was simultaneously closing on a house in another state. Its not the biggest deal in the world, and if I saw a tangible difference in my environment due to taxes, it wouldnt rustle my jimmies as much.
