Visual distinctiveness in MMOs has taken a turn for the bizarre. From the original EQ where there were only a handful of different textures to now where every character walks around like they are in a Mardi Gras parade.

Eventually all games go the wardrobe route whereby you can choose to make items appear as whatever texture / color you want and thereby unlock quite a bit of fashion variety... but then the notion of appearance = power goes out the window.

At least with an overtly Don Bluth art style Wildstar can go full blown Titan A.E. with their appearances and not look out of place.

As a replacement for leet-looking cobalt armor you now get a cute title for slaying Trakanon so you can still show off your digital prowess in town.

Titles are annoying. There should be an inverse relationship between the total length of the title and the status it confers. I wouldn't mind rocking the occasional "look at me" shit if it didn't make my name a billboard. I am still butthurt about not being able to give my WoW characters the last names I have in my head. Are there surnames in Wildstar?

Safe to assume that tons getting into a stress test and conversation completely dying is not a good sign?
Might mean the complete opposite too. If people do not care about the NDA at all, people tend to post. Even if it goes against board rules. Can remember beta threads in FoH and the likes where people either posted the leaks with fake accounts or sent the info as PMs to people who did not care about board rules and posted them.

PS: I am not in the beta. Do not have any private access to beta cake, so I have no idea if it is good or not. If it indeed people think it sucks and have accounts they do not care about, I will gladly try it if they can be shared

Watching the video on "Aiming" I can't help but think they're going to alienate a lot of less-capable casuals with this new, more active style of gameplay.

I just don't think the key-turning clickers are going to like it and it may keep them away from the game (this applies to other games, not just Wildstar).

While there is a certain amount of "Well, that is the price we pay for innovation", isn't that price going to be 10's or 100's of thousands of subs potentially? Maybe more? As these people and their friends balk at switching games and stick to the older WoW style?

Ground-targeted spells are in every mmo since WoW ever and both Guild Wars or games such as LoL for example inlcude skillshots, neither alienates the casual crowd. Then again, i'm not even sure if a mmo dev should cater to this audience at all these days.

When Nintendo struck gold with the Wii, everyone tried to appeal to families, soccer moms and chicks, but all of them moved on eventually, to phone and tablet games. With WoW being in a slow but steady decline, i don't think anyone can repeat its success (not even Blizzard) and get this many different crowds on board.

Because the casual mmo audience is now playing LoL or one of the numerous card games, anything with a lobby really. You hop in, play a match and then you leave and do whatever, but you most certainly don't invest a sizeable amount of time into a game.

It will piss anyone off with a ping over 200 though. I realise that anyone that doesn't live in the states doesn't deserve good games, but jesus h. fucking christ, could we land just one high-quality MMO with a localised server for us Oceanics?

Lol yeah.

I had a gamer friend from WoW who lives in Aus. He tried to play tera and just couldn't do it.

On that note, there has to be something stopping these companies from putting a actual server in Aus. Maybe someone with info can shed some light, has to be something like cost, support, maybe not enough players to make it worth it? Of course it could just be "sorry we don't want to".

Sweet Jesus mates,

Tidbit needs to get in one of these 2 betas to get my mind of this health shit happening to me to take my mind off.

I am subbed to bunch of games due to 1 year subs, as well as muti month subs but bored to tears in them so don't even log in.

Cheers.
