The game is a lot of fun, I'm definitely getting it but I agree it will need to avoid Elder Scrolls and EQ Next since their IP alone will get them sales and attention.

And this is how games fail. Pushing it out unfinished just to get some box sales. I'd rather it be done, released at the same time as whatever game and if its good and fun, word of mouth will carry and people will come no matter what. And if the game is good, it will slowly gain players, instead of "huge rush, then everyone leaves" that has been happening.
Totally agree. The choices are roll out a bag of crap and get more initial box sales but end up sinking in the long run or roll something solid that may have more competition day 1, but will pick up the pieces when people realize how big a bag of shit EQ:N and TESO turn out to be.

Not saying they will, but frankly my confidence in what I have seen so far from the Wildstar team far exceeds my confidence in a first time MMO dev team (as great as Bethesda is) and whatever the hell EQ:N is turning out to be.

We are going to remove numerical quest objectives from the game (i.e. "Kill X Vinds" and "Collect X Sentient Veggies") and instead introduce a "quest completion bar." For kill quests, this bar will increment the player's quest progress in relation to the amount of XP earned. For other quests, this bar will simply increment in set amounts for each completed interaction. This helps improve the system in the following ways:

By basing quest completion off XP gains, players can now choose to go after larger targets or smaller targets and earn quest progress appropriate for those choices. While killing harder things is slower, you will earn more quest progress for it. Those who prefer to fight easy things will kill faster, but progress more slowly for it.
This approach also helps groups stay on target for leveling progression. Even though groups will destroy creatures much faster, they will need to kill more in order for each player to earn the credit needed to complete the quest objective.

looks like a good idea.

I'm curious to see how that works out. On paper it looks pretty solid, and I like it. But it also looks exploitable as fuck and easy to grief other people. They're [likely] going to have to adjust mob density, population, experience-earned-per-mob, and respawn in every questing area of the game as their old metrics for leveling time and area progression are going to be completely fucked if 50 people can sit on a spawn point and nuke something for 500 damage til quest completes.

I haven't played the beta, and I don't know how they're handling mob spawns/respawns, so I'll use WoW's world mob spawning as an example. In WoW all world mobs are linked in a group of some kind. The group size can be as small as a single mob and as large as the whole zone's population of fel orcs. When an entire group has been wiped out a certain percentage will instantly respawn at more-or-less randomly chosen potential spawn points. The percentage of respawned seems to increase quickly over time as the players continue to completely deplete the population (I believe it starts at roughly 25% then goes as high as 50% instantly respawn).

WildStar's method of quest progression probably wouldn't be terribly difficult to balance outside of the freshly-launched-server situation where you have a quest area that is saturated with more players than what it was designed to support. If their world mob spawning methods are similar to WoW's what you would likely find is a bunch of static groups of players standing on known spawn points that attempt to do as much damage as possible before the small-raid sized force bursts the mob down.Thatsounds not fun, and off the top of my head I don't know what a good bandaid for this tiny, tiny fraction of a server's life would be.

They haven't announced, I expect at least a month or more..otherwise they would just extend the current phase by a week or so.

They had a lot of changes schedule for multiple phase...I think they just want to implemented them in the same phase.

This will clear my schedule for FF14, I was already planning on taking a break from beta for FF14, but this will make it easier.

It's good that they're responding to feedback. I'm assuming they're going to have the last 2 classes in by next beta then as well. I don't see them launching this game this year if we're lucky.

I'm glad they're getting rid of mob tagging, this new system sounds much better. Now i hope their tech guys are finally getting some work done before the Beta #4.

I don't know how anyone could ever be upset with their PR team.
Yeah seriously. It's good to see devs be so fucking excitedly nerdy and proud of what they've made, let alone actually make it entertaining as opposed to most PR ploys where they talk in a monotone voice and make it hard to like them even as a person.

Haha.

The monotony of WAR's launch comes to mind.

Although, I will say that Wildstar's take on marketing a game falls more on silly/entertaining than grandiose BS, which I think we all have a pretty accurate radar on by now.

This hopefully they get the last 2 classes in for launch, as well as new combat system there are rumors about. Then more content, bug fixes, finish the story, lore quests and balancing and polish. If they don't rush this and launch to early maybe this could be special.
