Fucking Lineage 1? What the hell.

Asians rule the MMO market. This will doom the Western MMO and I for one could not be sadder.

RIP gameplay and character development, hello shiny graphics no one can run and infinite grindfest with pay shops.

Some good drama going on now on the reddit and official forums regarding the actions of the Carbine employee who leaked the F2P info. To prove he was a Carbine employee the leaker posted a picture of a W2 but with his name blacked out but with the value of the gross pay visible. Since the value of the gross pay would make it easy to determine whose W2 it was, the leaker then said he purposely posted someone elses W2 so that Carbine would not be able to trace the leak back to him.

Anyways, I guess Carbine decided there was no point in trying to deny the leak was false so now it looks like August is when the business model will change.

Someone said that when Tera became available on Steam the population in that game increased significantly. It appears NCSoft's plan is to time the F2P conversion for when the game becomes available on Steam.

I'd almost like it if they mostly did away with raiding and just had 10-20 well designed dungeons. Then make bronze/silver/gold actually determine the loot/extra loot so basically it's finding a good squad and cranking those out. It'd be basically MMO equivalent of Diablo 3's GR's.

It'd become an amazing game overnight. I'd also consider the possibility of changing the difficulty curve, from opening dungeons at level 20, one shouldn't expect 15 wipes, which was the topic of discussion in general chat for way too long back at release.
Hard is okay-ish, but maybe leave it for the expert version at level cap. Retune raids for 1 or 2 groups top and they would have a decent game. Oh I almost forgot: triple the quest exp and remove the filler quests that were good only to frustrate people. Small team, kick away the idiots mis-managing this disaster and let someone with passion and competence to keep the sinking ship afloat.

That would be a good start for the F2P conversion. Take a page out of SWTOR's books and offer xp boosts for story quests if you're a sub.

Almost a year after launch, the penny finally drops for Carbine:A Discussion about dungeon difficulty and its impact upon the casual player base - Dungeons, Adventures, and Shiphands - WildStar Forums
This is actually something we've been looking into for the next drop, 1.4.0. Some of the changes will make SlyJeff sad, because they do make the normal dungeons easier, but we've found that the completion % as a whole is lower than we'd want. Additionally, the analytics shows that any player who does complete a dungeon, is significantly more likely to stick around. It's one of our 'stickiest' features for folks who can make it through.
"Hey guys, if we actually make our dungeons playable for non-poopsockers,people might keep playing our game!!!"

I read that as "in the open world there is hardly anything that appeals to even casual players, so we're just going to nerf dungeons and hope"

The focus of the game seemed off for what the market would bear. My largest peeve with the game, that I remember now, was the extreme focus on interrupts. It seemed to be the least interesting part of combat that would absolutely ruin your attempt if a few, occasionally just one, were missed. Throw in a disconnect, one suboptimal player, etc. and you were in a situation to have a bad time.

WildStar? Will Become Free-to-Play this Fall

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (May 28, 2015) - NCSOFT? and Carbine StudiosT are excited to announce that WildStar, one of the most critically-acclaimed MMOs of 2014, will become free-to-play this fall. As this transition takes place, Carbine is committed to ensuring that WildStar will remain AAA, offering polished regular updates and a high-quality experience.

"At the beginning of 2015, we outlined key points of focus for WildStar to help make this great game even better, focusing heavily on player feedback and bringing meaningful changes," said Mike Donatelli, product director, Carbine Studios. "We continue to deliver on those points and feel strongly that removing the subscription cost will give everyone who loves MMOs, or just wants to have an incredible gaming experience, a chance to try WildStar."

Following the transition this fall, all players will be able to level to 50, acquire all Amps and abilities, and participate in all dungeons, raids, adventures, shiphands, and PvP. The entirety of the game will be open for players to explore for free.

Players may also purchase an optional membership for a monthly fee that will provide various convenience bonuses and enhancements to XP, crafting, currency, item drops and reputation. Members will gain additional character, costume, bank, supply, and d?cor items.

For the in-game store, NCoin will enable players to buy convenience or cosmetic items. In almost every case, items that are available for purchase via NCoin will have equivalent items available for players that want to invest time rather than money. One thing that will not be available for purchase is power - progression will continue to require both skill and effort.

This fall, in addition to going free-to-play, Carbine will be working to make even more quality of life and content changes within WildStar:

? Streamlining player and item stats to be much more intuitive while adding high-level options to give players more flexibility.

? Making the Amp system easier to use by unlocking all Amp slots.

? Reviewing dungeons and open world content so that the experience is challenging, but not brutal.

? Changing the tutorial and early game experience to provide a better and quicker introduction.

Over the next several months, the studio will share more details about how this transition will impact current and future players along with more detail on the significant improvements coming to the game. Players who maintain a subscription from June 15, 2015 through the free-to-play transition will receive exclusive items and rewards. Additionally, those players who have supported the game since launch, and maintain their subscription through transition, will receive even more. For former players, Carbine will outline a comprehensive loyalty program that rewards players for time and effort invested in the game, even if they are not current subscribers. Additional detail about all of these rewards can be found athttp://www.wildstar-online.com/en/ne...iation-rewards.

"Over the last year, hundreds of thousands of amazing players have shared feedback and logged in to check out WildStar," said Chad Moore, creative director for Carbine Studios. "Whether you are a current player, or someone who played in the past, as part of this transition we want to make sure that we are recognizing and rewarding you for being an essential part of this great game."

The studio will continue to provide regular content updates, delivering exciting additions to the game's stories, systems, and landscape. The transition to free-to-play is only the beginning of what is to come for WildStar. For more information, please tune in to our announcement livestream at 10:00 am PDT on Friday, May 29 atTwitch.

Looks like they didn't even break a million boxes sold. Also, i'm laughing at how they are changing the tutorial beginning. That shit was awful.

I really interested in what they change from a design perspective. As they moved from alpha to beta to release they seemed to make every single decision wrong. The game got steadily worse over time.

Should be a really big second half of the year for NCSoft with GW2 xpac, Blade & Soul and now WS f2p.

Well I'll give it another shot when it goes F2P. I haven't played since beta, so it has to be a lot better by then.

Really sounds like they're going the right way with this system. The things they are restricting aren't too punishing - fewer auction slots, less housing decor (though still way up from what it was at release), less character slots - but no dungeons, classes, zones, races, or tradeskills are blocked off. Their system seems more built around rewarding subscribers (exp, money, tradeskill, harvesting, faction, etc. bonuses) than putting everything they can think of behind a wall, which is really refreshing. Even better is the fact that you can loosen up some of the restrictions through the Loyalty Points, but on top of that, everything in the cash shop will be able to be purchased with "Omnibits" which drop from mobs.

It's a system that feels a lot more similar to LoL or TF2's model than what you typically see with MMOs where F2P is really just a glorified trial that constantly tries to get you to open your wallet. Overall, I'm pretty impressed with what they've come up with. Hope it works well.

Took them way too long to do this. I like the sound of all the changes. I'll definitely be checking this out again when it is finally free.

I don't think it was even really the interrupts themselves, but the need to overcome interrupt armor that generated the issues. Having to use 3 interrupts in a row to stop an ability is one thing, but the fact that the armor regenerated at a non zero pace meant you had to do a level of coordination unheard of in non-endgame dungeons. Great for good players in statics; complete shit for randoms and pugs.

Those F2P settings aren't terrible at all. Boosts to efficacy is absolutely fine for subs, but don't cordon off standard races/classes/content based upon sub. Looks like they had a gander at the TOR model and went "well some of this is fucking stupid, adios!" and went from there. Good on them.

Yeah, I feel like Wildstar had a lot of potential early on, but bugs, bad optimization, and gold farmers ruined it. Hopefully this gives it a second life like Star Wars got. I still believe this game can be good.
