I am really glad that they have been so open throughout the process and wish I had picked up the game sooner. It really does look like a breath of fresh air but I am still trying not to engage in full-hype train mode to avoid the crash and burn that has followed every time I previously boarded that train. ;[ Here's to hoping?

Well, fail number 1 IMO.

According to Beta Cakes, Paths have specific abilities/stat bonuses tied to them. So if you plan to min/max raid (which you will probably have to do, since they have stated they plan their 'Elder Game' to be quite challenging) be prepared to play a path that may not be optimal to your enjoyment:

http://www.betacake.net/2013/05/21/w...ths-abilities/

So if you want to be a healer, you better play as a Scientist, lest you be relegated to scrub-ville.

Ya we had like a 3 page conversation about this a few pages back and honestly I could give a fuck less if I'm going to be getting 0.5% more +int. I don't think everybody should be equal anyways and even with paths there are useful things shown for specific situations one path may be better than another. And you know what? Good.

The fact that they are claiming that they're focusing so much on elder game, I very highly doubt paths are really going to matter that much. Of course with the game being in closed beta and all, everything is subject to change anyways.

I only kinda agree.

These paths are supposed to augment the way you like to play. Well, I like to explore. Cool. But now I have to have inferior healing/tanking/whatever abilities available to me because this is the way I like to play? Totally defeats the purpose of the system if you ask me. What will happen is every raider will min/max their path, just like they do their class. Ex. No way would I roll a Human Monk and give up regen/AC bonuses of Iksar.

Ya, I know it's a beta. Hopefully some dev lurks these boards and knocks some sense into his team about this.

Well it seems like wow racials basically, which rarely had any sort of major impact past vanilla(mostly dwarves for the priest racial fear ward and undead for the fear break, because every boss had fucking fear and tremor was shit). I mean there were always a min max choice almost, but most of the time the difference was so small it didn't matter.

Balance is kinda off for that purpose however, at least for the shield generator. I don't really see any reason you wouldn't want all your raid members to be settlers so you could rotate those shield generators over and over. Unless there's an exhaustion kind of debuff but you'll still want as many as the debuff allows, because it looks way OP. As a PvPer, Soldier also looks fairly strong with the CC removal+aoe knockback+CC resist and obviously the group run speed buff from Explorer if there's any sort of CTF or similar type of systems.

So yeah don't know, this shit probably just needs to get nerfed into oblivion until it's just fluff really, which is a bit sad. That or they need to be normalized with like one offensive, one defensive/support and one utility ability, then balance them with each other.

Ya, it's the shield I'm particularly concerned about. AOE 700% weapon dmg plus blind every 2 mins also seems a bit... much

I HIGHLY doubt a whole team of devs that are focusing on making their end game great would make such an obvious mistake. All they'd need to do is give healer classes some sort of ability to do the same I guess.. In saying that Devs have done even crazier things I guess. Fingers crossed.

I agree, I have faith these guys will make sure the balance changes needed to be made are made.

Who the fuck says that that heal doesn't share a cooldown with main heals? Who the fuck says 500% weapon DPS is a lot? Maybe most heals are 1000% weapon dps. Who says those are final numbers (hint: They most likely aren't).

Basically, fuck the whining and doom-saying until we see a goddamn balance issue POST RELEASE.

If you really think that paths will change the outcome of your playstyle just for 2 or 3 extra numbers, who gives a shit. Unless you're going for world firsts you don't need to worry about it and even if you are, you probably still don't need to worry about it.

You're speaking from a previously made MMO standpoint and there are no rules to say those have to apply to this game. At the moment, neither of us know, but my money is on the path specific stuff not mattering in endgame. There's nothing to even say they can be used on endgame. Who knows!

Ya, I'm perfectly aware of this. I'm not really whining, I just think it's a silly idea to tie abilities to paths, and contrary to their stated goals. The specifics of the abilities mean nothing really.

And that's what sucks, as soon as someone has something that's even 1% better then what they chose, people cry unfair and want it changed. Then everything just ends up being useless.

Putting them into a tiered pool type deal could be interesting, where like you said, reach path level x , choose one of 4 offensive abilities and so on. Make it a permanent choice. But its just homogenization again because someone wanted X without doing Y. At this point path is like a 2nd class, you level it up, its a permanent choice, it has abilities tied to its level and the abilities are unique to that class.

Imo if you want to min/max then the consequence of that choice is doing content that might not be your favorite.

Path abilities can't be used in Raids or PVP. Problem solved.
Maybe. From that leak, said there are only 3 path abilities to each path anyway(not a final number obviously) so its not really a big part of your class as whole, they are merely a addition to what you have.
