I'll check it out after I get done with Windrose. Thanks for the suggestion.
This games starting 3 hours makes Crimson Deserts look like Elden Ring. That said, it is a ton of fun once you get a real ship. Combat is very meh, but it's a great concept and the ship stuff is a ton of fun. They will continune iterating this I'm sure and make it better for 1.0, but just the concept alone is enough to vault this near the top of survival games for me. Love the vibe, the ship stuff, the base building is intuitive and well thought out as well. Subnautica, V Rising, Grounded are probably my favorites and this is up there for sure. I like this more than Enshrouded, for example.
What the fuck.I've never played Subnautica because I'm not big into horror, and deep water already freaks me out enough. I do plan on trying the second one when it releases, though.

Valheim your ass alreadySubnautica is a goddamn masterpiece. It is very much a survival game but different because it is so story driven (and single player only). It is one of the few games where I wish I could unlearn the plot so I could do another play through. The mechanics are good survival genre fair, paired with underwater survival stuff. But my god, go in blind, the story is just fucking excellent. Usually with these games, I would recommend looking up interactive maps for resource deposits and such, but not for Subnautica. Don't play Below Zero, it is ass in comparison. Resource collection and base building is the exact same, but the story is trash, and story is the reason you play the game. I have no idea what the new one will turn out to be with all of the behind the scenes drama going on.
I have so many of these games on my wishlist at the moment, so I don't have to wait for content to be added slowly. I do own Enshrouded, Palworld, Valheim and StarRupture, so I am trying to only get finished games at this point. I have Dragonwilds, Windrose, Grounded 2, the Last Caretaker and Dune Awakening on the wishlist at the moment.
If I were to make a Top 5, it would probably go:
1. Grounded
2. Subnautica
3. V-Rising
4. Abiotic Factor
5. Enshrouded
What the fuck.
A) The first blind playthrough of Subnautica is the best survival experience anyone will ever experience, EVER.
B) It's not a horror game. Yes you will probably get jump-scared at least once while playing (almost everyone does) but it's not a horror game.
C) The second one is going to be trash just like Below Zero was trash because Unknown Worlds is a trash studio and the brilliance of the original game was an accident
D) Play Subnautica

About 3 - 4 hours in and I am enjoying it despite some of its very rough edges
Its a nice combination of many survival crafters and also crafting stations pulling from chests right out of the box without the need for modding is a 10/10 move.
The combat needs a lot of work, I am finding my best method of attack for solo and groups is swing once, back step, run till full stamina, swing again....repeat.
The game does not set you up to be jump scared, it's just a thing that will inevitably happen sooner or later by chance. As for the water, it's really only an issue for most people in the very early game. It doesn't take long before it feels about the same a game set in a vacuum which I'm guessing you can play with no issue.I genuinely do not enjoy jump scares, and the water aspect makes me uncomfortable...I know that sounds dumb, I'm fully aware of it, but it's just hard for me to want to get into, especially solo.
I'll play it someday, though I'm sure, the second one for sure.

Pretty sure you keep mentioning the second one just to be a smartass though.
I played it on release. I tried going back after they added Ashlands and... it is no longer enjoyable to me? I think the genre passed Valheim by over the years they have been dragging this out. Game seems a bit too clunky and grindy for me nowadays in comparison to some of the other games I have listed.Valheim your ass already
