don't think anyone here is going to open a mill, but some good info if going to get wood klim dried/sterilized

spends a lot of time on value of air drying then kilm drying, moisture content. bugs etc.

I saw that pop up the other day but was too busy to watch, thanks for posting. It is interesting, I'd be willing to try it out for $90 or picking up one of their smaller ones like one of their rebate planes.

The grumpy old man in me wants to argue that replaceable blades misses a big part of learning how planes work and gets you closer to the craft. Learning how to sharpen and set up a plane is a great teaching opportunity and translates in to other aspects of work. No that this keeps you from learning how to sharpen a chisel or card scraper, etc. Like I said, just being grumpy haha.

Maybe Rali will create a replacement scrub knife instead of their regular straight knife.

(watched at 2x speed and it seems almost normal)

The joint of the bed body is called " 腰掛け蟻継ぎ (stepped dovetail joint) ".
This kumite(joint) is used in traditional framework construction methods, and has been used for posts and beams that support houses from ancient times to the present day in Japan. This time, Ishitani arranged the depth of the dovetail for the bed and adopted it.

when i saw this giant pencil sharper, thought it a small thing to to make stuff like this

but it is part of a kit used to make plugs to remove knots, never seen that before.

Don't think I ever posted any updates to any projects I've been trying to close out after these last two months have kept me from doing anything. It also turns out I may have a torn left bicep that was masked / hidden from all the spine pain and medication I was on. So now working through that...

Not quite finished with the changing table but got it upstairs and got the drawer fronts / pulls on. Things moved a bit while it sat for 8 weeks unpainted so the fronts weren't as nicely aligned as I wanted probably, but they all work :) Top is done and in the shop I just have to paint it, but it is 106 degrees and 120 percent humidity. That'll be an early morning thing one day this week. It was paint matched to a bookcase my wife found on the other side of the nursery.

I wrapped up most of son's bed as well and had put the LEDs in his little cubby. Decided not to put on the doors b/c he doesn't need to be able to close himself in there and watch porn. Still a little touch up paint I need to do eventually, maybe. The pull out nightstand and desk mainly.

After this I think it is time to reorganize the shop. Had one more project going at the same time and the place is a disaster area. Maybe when it cools off a little and I can pull everything out. Need to build a new set of cabinets for one wall and do a few other touch ups.

So I came across these two scroll saws in my travels this week. Both work, just need to be cleaned and greased a bit. And no that wooden stand is not sturdy in the least lol.

But I don't have a scroll saw. So this was a win.

Same! I was recently lucky enough to be given one of these by my brother in law's mom who had to give up woodworking due to finger arthritis. (1970's edition, but same idea.)

Oh sweet! Yeh I only needed to spend 15 bucks on a missing piece, and a new plug for thr cord. And works like a charm after vacuuming and blowing out an int3nse amount of dust in he motor lol

my old bge table was looking rough after 11 years so I've started building a modular kind of kitchen area. it looks so crooked in the picture but i assure you it's only kinda crooked lol.

also.

bge sent me an entire new dome and lower shell under warranty after the old one had the paint flake off. no fuss

I'm going to build one more section for a black rock griddle. if I'm feeling extra sassy might do an outdoor fryer space.

I'm not decided on the top surface. it'll either be just some cedar or I'll try a concrete counter pour

This guy's got a fun channel. Interesting to see a different tradition of woodworking, more from a Japanese carpentry background than fine furniture.

That's not a big counter top, so if you can, pour it in a form and then flip it into place. It will save you hours of sanding, and it will be smooth like a baby's bottom.
