It's what prompted me to buy my Ridgeline when I sold my M2. Don't really need towing, but I wanted something I could pick up lumber and other shop crap.I need a truck. I always need stuff for the shop. I always need plywood sheets, and long ass cuts from mills. Woodworking things. I've been really draggnig my heels getting one, mostly because I love my Honda Civic and it just.doesn't.fucking.die.
I thought about doing this, and I understand the concerns with using a Civic for this:
Get a hitch installed. Build a lightweight, well balance little trailer - all i'd use it for is stuff more more than say 300 lbs TOPS. With a teeny trailer I doubt it would be more than 500 lbs total. If I used this maybe once every couple weeks driving maybe 20 miles total, do you think I'd be COMPLETELY fucking my frame/transmission? I _FEEL_ like it wouldn't be a huge deal. blah.
Thoughts? Ugh.
I'm not experienced enough in joinery to know how to put it together without it falling apart a year later. I wanted to avoid pocket holes and the like if possible.
How would one put this together?
The box will have hinges in the back so that you can just lift up the lid to get inside if you need to do maintenance, otherwise its a pretty big pain to lift this thing up to take out the bottom. But yea I was thinking about routing the bottom panel like that too, it just looks weird from a stability perspective. The sides will still have melamine on it so would it not glue very well to the bottom like that?It also looks like many of them don't bother with a bottom panel. If you definitely want one, you could rout out a rabbet around the perimeter of either the bottom or the sides and then join with screws so you could remove it later if you needed to access the internals in the future.

So you guys think pocket holes reinforcing the box from the inside would be better than using brackets?
Your tables are maps though and serve a purpose. Not just a piece of wood with Care Bear diarrhea poured down the middle.
