Getting a "perfect" finish is a pain in the butt and annoying and frustrating and infuriating and stupidly satisfying when you do get it...

Now out of this project I have 1 out of 7 parts in a finish I like done...and 1 more at about 80% done...

Wife: "Why...no one is going to grope the thing and be like 'oh what a nice finish or care' - just put it together and be done"

I just showed this to my wife and she laughed and said "sounds like he only finishes 2 woodworking projects a year, too"

What does one consider wood working projects ;-)

This is my only /wood working/ project... all the others are in conjunction with a "house" project.

Like she didn't want me working on this lectern until I finished up the cabinet thing she wanted in the bedroom... and I did, even with the "oh we should add shelves between the cabinets" and "oh we should put a door or something to cover one shelf so I don't see wires" - THEN I started doing the finishing on the lectern and stuff.. and now she is like "I want a bench that is storage on the side of the cabinet that matches the wood shelf and top"

So she considers it "not done" - you cannot ADD an entire "thing" and consider the first THING(s) not not done...

I have heard the legends - but have avoided the fate thus far…

Finish was not what I wanted… just not…

(Gets out the low grit sand paper)

/sigh

We were just talking about JKM and the few tools a couple of us have. This email popped up today with a countersink tool. Honestly I haven’t liked a number of countersink versions in my box; collet style, standalone bits, and I guess a more integrated style like this. His looks very interesting, just not sure personally it is a $70 problem I need to fix. Plus it reads like the 1/2” and 1/4” are extra and only for pre-order?

Needed to fortify the storage shelf under my bench because it was becoming inadequate. Now that I have it all out, I can see why.

This is approximately 1/4 of the tree. Well, of the millable tree. I also got almost 2 cords of firewood out of it.

It's easy to get discouraged by how much I have left to flatten, but I've sure got a helluva lot done so far.

I did finish my lectern - presented it to whom I made it and he liked it.

To reference my post about my wife complaining about the finish, I did let her know...every person I showed it do, did indeed feel the top of it and commented on the finish sand/look/feel... I mean, it is a lectern it is meant to be hands on.

When I had my volvo xc90 that had real wood trim, I molested that car all the time.... some people are just drawn to the look and feel of real wood.

Whatever happened with the whole festool domino patent situation?
think it is still in a holding pattern. their original patent expires mid year, but they have some options that could stop others from making anything for a while longer.
