I thought a 'fair play' ranking based on yellow/red cards was a criteria before tossing a coin? I seem to remember versions where if a team was eliminated for sure, you would redo the calculations without it to un-tie the tied-teams... too many speculations: let's dive into the the official documents:If the teams are equal after the methods above, FIFA (World Cup) draws lots, while UEFA (Euros) use their own fucking ranking system to decide who progresses.
So in a two way Points/GD/GS tie, it's direct confrontation and coin flip if it's a draw.Fifa official rules_sl said:5. The ranking of each team in each group shall be determined as follows:
a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
b) goal difference in all group matches;
c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.
If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria, their
rankings shall be determined as follows:
d) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the
teams concerned;
e) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams
concerned;
f) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams
concerned;
g) drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee
nah...i'm portuguese and i can tell you this team is one of the worst i have seen in years. Ronaldo is the only world class player,the others are bunch of fucks that only could play in a 2nd level european team.Are there some injuries or something for Portugal? For those of us who do not follow soccer much, it seems Portugal is doing poorly. Bad loss to Germans, and now barely tie US team that looked terrible against Ghana - the same Ghana team that tied Germany.
It just seems a bit much calling them 3rd team in the world? Before you flame, I'm honestly asking. I don't follow the sport much.
I guess the bookies take the possibility of collusion into account, comparable to the shameful Austria vs. West-Germany game in 1982. That would be extremely unsportsmanlike though (and even illegal).So based on:

The Germany vs USA game is probably going to be a draw?
What do you reckon you alls chances against Ghana are? Pepe will be back (not sure that is a great thing though!) - Ronaldo looked absolutely furious at the full time whistle. Not sure their head/hearts will be in it. Hope I'm wrong!nah...i'm portuguese and i can tell you this team is one of the worst i have seen in years. The preparation was done poorly. some teams were already in Brazil to get used to its climate and we were touring in the US to earn some $$$. Our medical staff are bunch of morons,so many injuried players in 10 days WTF
Fuck rankings really,thay don't show the reality. just take a look to IFFHS rankings ahah what a joke
The fact that there is a game in the world championship playoffs of this sport where both teams could advance on a tie is a pretty good example of why soccer is lame.I guess the bookies take the possibility of collusion into account, comparable to the shameful Austria vs. West-Germany game in 1982. Could easily have the same scenario exist in the NFL on the final week of the regular season with two 9-6 teams playing each other for their division title, but with both still alive for the final wild card as well. A 3rd team could win to go 9-7 and potentially have the head to head tiebreaker over the loser of the game to get in as a wild card, but if the game ended in a tie both teams would finish 9-6-1, with one holding the tiebreaker to win the division title and the other getting a wild card spot.The fact that there is a game in the world championship playoffs of this sport where both teams could advance on a tie is a pretty good example of why soccer is lame.
This isn't the play-off stage yet, it's the group stage of the finals.The fact that there is a game in the world championship playoffs of this sport where both teams could advance on a tie is a pretty good example of why soccer is lame.
As Diddley noted above, this isn't the playoffs yet, just group stage. The odds of that scenario happening is not a billion to one at all, although obviously a tie in the NFL is much, much rarer than a World Cup match.That's not in the playoffs/a tournament, plus the odds of that scenario are about a billion to one.

July '80, only 33. Dude seems like he'd be 40 though doesn't he?Hang on, is Dirk Kuyt playing left back for the Dutch? I thought he would be in his mid-40's by now
If there's one thing you can count on from the US in the World Cup, it's passion and raw physical ability. Sometimes that's enough to overcome their tactical shortcomings and lack of world class talent. Always fun to watch.Very very impressed with the USMNT this tournament. They given us 2 thrilling games and I would rank their performance and passion given above teams like Belgium, Argentina, Portugal, Spain and England.
