This is dependent on the level of the pets you fight. 1-5 there is only 1, 6-10 there is always 2 and at 11+ it's always 3 of them.

Second for removing factions. The only world pvp I've run into in the past 3 years is running into some random alliance while farming nodes. Even while leveling if people run into each other 99% of the time they just /wave and go about their day.

Meh. I fully support keeping factions in this game and Blizz should do merges to make that pvp inevitable.
As to the portal, I think using the current dark portal is stupid. They should leave that as Outland it is still epic to zone into Outland. Why not use a random portal in Outland? I'm pretty sure a couple exist.

Hardcoded factions are pretty much pointless. While there are some people who have a hardon for open world PVP I would wager that this makes up such a small percentage of their customer base that it really is not worth the cost anymore...assuming it ever was.
Trion did away with theirs and it really hasnt effected the PVP game at all. In fact it probably enhanced it significantly as it allowed them to create PvPvP battlegrounds swith soft coded factions and such.

The thing is Trions world and lore is boring and nobody gives a shit about it. They can make wholesale changes in an attempt to fix what are underlying design issues that have come to light, such as removing factions, and opening things up.
The entire premise of Warcraft is Horde vs Alliance. I doubt Blizzard will ever be able to change the game systemically enough to remove that.
I like the direction they are going, but at the end of the day it's still WOW, just with a fuckton more Mudflation.
There is a vendor that lets you spend 250 VP for each upgrade to the item which boosts it's ilvl by 8 points and therefore its stats.
He hangs out with the reforger and transmog guy.
its actually 4ilvl for 250 VP but you do it twice, on epic gear, once for blue.

You upgrade blue gear with JP though. Also you upgrade pvp gear with conquest/honor.
