Lol. Shadowlands storyline had so much potential. But Instead of the Jailer being some kind of lawful-evil figure whose motivation to undo reality hinged on his belief that the cycle of life and death was unfair, we get evil Jailer who does evil things because he’s evil.

I believe they pulled the plug on this expansion early because of all of their failures, shortcomings, misdeeds, etc. 9.2 raid was going to end with Anduin and 9.3 raid would end with zovaal, but in scrapping 9.3 (all while pretending publicly ‘this was a story in 3 acts’) they mashed their 9.2 and 9.3 raids together. This is why there’s a major story pause and content timegate after Anduin. Whatever cliffhanger comes at the end of that fight would normally dangle for 8-10 months now it will only be a week.

Sure, GRRM found mild success inverting the tropes of Tolkienesque fantasy with asoiaf. Danuser has shown his mastery by turning THOSE tropes on their head. He's just so far beyond anything we could even imagine.

WoW ends on a pretty high note if you just imagine they cancelled the game after legion. You know, when we beat the burning legion, the main antagonists of the entire franchise?

The cutscene wasn't bad - I think how it will be ultimately judged is what happens later. High Elf Sylvannis is acknowledging that what was done is unforgivable and she has to face the consequences. Even the bit about Frostmourne corrupting the souls/twisting people isn't too far fetched.

What they do need to do, though, is have those consequences. I'm guessing she gives them the key to save Anduin/what the Jailer is up to, then ends up dying. You can mourn the tragedy that made them into what they are, but it doesn't excuse the tragedies they befell upon others. FF14 is usually pretty good about addressing that.

my thoughts exactly. nice cinematic, sans story. got some nice gameplay to go with it?

I've said this before but the end of Legion was the perfect time to end World of Warcraft. You formally announce the story concluded and then launch World of Warcraft 2. WoW2 isn't a new game but a major reset with a realignment of the factions, your level squish, a narrative time skip and a relaunch. Mechanically you get to take a full pass at every single one of the game's systems. Narratively the player character enters the world as your typical peasant derp that has heard the call to adventure rather than some story about opening dimensional rifts to other planes of existence. You get to tell a nice, simple story about an Azeroth fifty years in the future where the drums of war can once again be heard in the far distance.

I was ready to thumbs up the cinematic, until near the end when Uther says “The Jailer is deceptively cunning.” And I’m reminded how they’ve failed to show that for the entire expansion. We have no reason to believe the Jailer is any kind of mastermind other than constantly being told so, and they do it again. And it’s not like this is new, this was a criticism that’s existed since shortly after launch.

Yeah it was nice to see Warcraft 3 Slyvanas and they clearly put a lot of development time into her face lol, it's not a bad cinematic.

The problem is that it's only 4 minutes long. They did set this up with Uther in Bastion but it wasn't a big enough focus of the zone or covanent campaign and 3/4 of players haven't seen it. Jainia had a whole scenario and a cutscene when you rescue her from Thros in BfA, so have us fight through Slyvanas' struggles with her in a scenario or dungeon.

The huge problem Blizzard has now is that FF14 Endwalker tackles a lot of the same themes as Shadowlands and executes then much better, once the spoiler period has passed, the memes are going to be brutal.

Spoiler for FF14 ending:
They pull a new character out of nowhere to be the final boss (like Jailer), but they connect her with existing characters and lore in a way that doesn't invalidate them, then you spend a whole zone with the character learning about her.

Then at the end of the game, they have another whole zone and dungeon where she repeats her plan and motivations AND YOU PLAY THROUGH THEM and you spend more time with her before the final battle.

In the final battle you depower and redeem her (like Sylvanas) even though she's responsible for maybe billions of deaths including several viseral deaths you've seen on screen. But because you understand how and why she turned evil and what her nature is, it works.

Oh and the final zone and dungeon is a totally alien world, with floating rocks being the least of it. The penultinate zone is a testing ground for ancient creators just like Zereth Mortis and also has floating stuff... WoW compares very poorly.

They knew the fury they'd feel from Danuser if they messed up his spank bank material.

Also, Sylvanas looks like some old lady with way too much plastic surgery. I feel like they hired some game porn webm artists for this shit.

People wanting to redeem or put elf hitler to rest makes sense in WoW's retarded universe.

They sure have shifted the way they do cinematic graphics.

It's strange that the Jailer didn't think Sargeras or any of his commanders were worthy enough of being a trusted ally considering how many galactic citizens they murdered in their Burning Legion conquest.

What if Danuser sees himself as Sylvanas and is using the burning of Teldrassil as an allegory for his sexual harassment of women at Blizzard. Maybe he's using Sylvanas's redemption as a way to relieve himself of guilt he feels and he has some final act of self-sacrifice planned at Blizzard (Zoom call featuring seppuku while dick deep in a sylvanas sex doll? no idea).

We all know the ending to this story. Danuser goes WuTang on his Twig n Berries and becomes Sylvanas then the transition of Blizzard will be complete. As he shows up to work in a dress and demands to be call Sylvie, the next expansion will include a Sylvanas anime pillow and Sylvanas/Tyranda lesbian scissor sex which will resurrect Ysera who will become the new Warcheif through the power of friendship. Meanwhile King Anduille Sausage learns from being the jailers ward that friendship with the Horde caused these issues and it's time to put the WAR back in WARCRAFT RAWR:

This time with all new island expeditions, warfronts, scenarios, farmville dailies, useless crafting bullshit, also Covid-19 has infected Azeroth through the open wound left to fester from Sagaras. As super aids covers the land all characters will get customizable masks they can eqiup on their avatar, you can wear it covering your face, covering just your mouth and not your nose, and on your chin. Or just hanging around your neck like you are some retard cowboy from the wild west. As each faction blames the other for the outbreak of super aids Azeoth will never be the same....

Plus some old God corruption.

This shit is so cringe.

You don't need complex villains to make a RPG work. Especially in MMOs. It's worse when your complex villains are actually retards and your writers somehow think they're complex. Black dragons are quality villains. Why are they villains? Because they're assholes. Why are they assholes? Because they think you're a lesser creature and fuck you, that's why.

Damn, I just wrote a better villain than 9.2.

Black Dragons are villians because The Old Gods got them with The Corruption.

What you wrote sounds like Grand Marshal Garithos from the Warcraft 3 expansion who was just a racist.

Did nobody post this abomination?

Never mind turning an iconic helm into a quest green, why can't they hire a fucking proper QA department like Square-Enix and every other company has so that people can play the story unspoiled?

FF14 Endwalker had two whole ZONES and a final boss nobody knew anything about and we found out about it all playing the fucking game.
