Since WoW Forever is being built upon the Retail client, they can absolutely create MASSIVE underground zones/areas. They already did this a couple times in Retail and I see no reason why they wouldn't be able to do the same again in Forever.

Dude imagine porting the original plan for Azjol-Nerub into the Underdark at the scale of like a War Within zone obviously modified for no flying?

Yepo, sign me the fuck up.

The problem with underground zones is they're not super interesting if it's all mostly flat terrain, which is necessary in a world with only ground mounts. You could add in-zone taxi service gryphons/wyverns I suppose, but they only added Deepholm or Zaralek Caverns long into the flying mounts for everyone era, and could create vertical content inside those zones to make them more interesting. Otherwise it's kind of just a big flat cave like Quarm's room in Plane of Time.

Those are good ideas. Subterranean Hyjal is already in one of the new raids though, Barrow Deeps.

Thats a different one and why I didn't include it. The Furbolg stuff they showed is the area between Winterspring and Felwood, that was to be a dungeon or raid (they are making it a raid in this), the one under Hyjal was Night Elf inspired with an Old God influence.

You have NO IDEA of the massive vertical changes just in the two original continents do you? Ever flown from Ironforge to Wetlands? Every looked off the Loch Modan dam? Ever quested in Thousand Needles?

Get the fuck out of here.

Isn’t there a portal in Stormwind that never got built into a zone?

Or they could get inspired by Guild Wars 2 and have a mount that jumps really high with its own mastery system that only works in specific underground zones.

Yes I did all that. I didn't say it wasn't feasible, I said it would be hard to make it interesting. Do you just want Wetlands but underground? Do you want Thousand Needles but in a cave? Is that what's been missing for you all those years?

Yea thats the Stormwind Vaults, was supposed to be a dungeon.

As I recall, Stormwind Vaults was supposed to be the supermax version of the Stockades, with very dangerous and/or magical criminals in there. They kind of reworked it later into the Violet Hold in Dalaran for Wrath of the Lich King and Legion.

Dude, they can easily do a verticle zone even when everyone is solely on foot. There a lot of options for them from elevators to flight paths to teleports to get you around a verticle zone. Just because YOU are an uncreative fool doesn't mean these devs are.

There's always a couple no matter the thread in this place. I think some people just live to be contrarian.

I've had to accept I'm getting milked or otherwise look the other way on a lot of bullshit just to play EQ TLPs. Maybe I'm the battered housewife here and I've been trained well to not burn the roast but when I see what Blizzard has offered it's vastly exceeded my expectations.

I did mention the possibility of underground taxi rides, but I'm fully ready to admit I'd never have thought of changing the women portraits into fruit bowls. #creativity

I don't understand why it's so hard to grasp that WoW Forever is likely going to be Azeroth only and so there is zero reason Northrend can't be opened up with additional content and changes later down the line. Same with MoP. I may be mistaken but it seems to me they just want to get rid of stuff outside of Azeroth and feature creep that has plagued the game for years. There are all kinds of interesting zones they can add into Azeroth.

Some features are worth keeping and integrating. The orange gear and artifacts from Legion, for example.

Northrend's probably fine, but they'll have to change the lore background for Pandaria is they want to put that in, because it was the Cataclysm that dissipated the mists hiding it from the rest of the world.

If we never go to Outland, we never bring Illidan back to the Broken Isles as a prisoner, meaning he can't help us against the Legion.

Warlords of Draenor and Shadowlands can mostly be skipped because their story doesn't impact Azeroth a whole lot in the grand scheme of things, but at some point this is really bending themselves backwards just to avoid Outland.

Northrend could absolutely be a destination later on. Arthas wouldn't even have to be the focal point of the story either. He could just exist in the background.

Well the WoW Forever team literally said their goal was to rewrite things so it almost seems pointless to point to old lore as if it's some sort of requirement.
