Ah. Well, China is a third world shithole. Activision has tried to play ball there in the past, so no idea. Getting a legal precedent there and getting ignored would make getting a court order to track down users through the ISPs easier.

I have never worked for M$FT, and I don't care how any of this plays out. They have the resources to end the server outside of China if they want to whether China wants them to or not. With the issues surrounding the UK's recent bullshit a lot of countries are going to be creating their own Great Firewalls.
Not China. Even worse from a M$FT standpoint: Russia. China at least WANTS to be a technological leader with US companies. Russia just does NOT give a shit.

Do you even know where Turtle WoW is physically hosted? I'll give you a hint, it's in a country that doesn't give a SHIT about US precedent....

Abstract thought is not that persons strength. What they're after that's realistic is in the end of the lawsuit.

What are the odds that Turtle / Epoch / Ascension are brought down?

I'd love to dedicate some time to them, but not if the likelihood of them being brought offline was high.

Turtle as has been said is run by Russians. I think a lot of the server infrastructure is currently in Kazakhstan so it’s unlikely it gets shut down entirely.

It won’t matter because of vpn but can they even compel third party isps to restrict access to the ip?

It'll take a few months for the filings to even reach a court date in the US.

Assuming everything is decided in favor of Blizz (which lets be real, it will be), they won't be able to actually compel the server hosting company to take any of it down if it's actually hosted someplace slavic or 2nd world-ey that doesn't really care about US law. By all accounts it does appear to be hosted someplace in the .ru space - their registration for the domain lists an Iceland office, but their contact email is Proton with a bunch of routing through .ru ISPs.

The turtle-wow.org domain and other more global things will very likely be seized/taken down, so accessing things will get a lot more annoying if we assume the dev/owners are indeed adamant about keeping the servers online.

There is 0% chance anything Blizz does will cause TWoW to go offline. Blizzard just looks petty and incompetent trying this. At this point even if Blizz put a Classic+ server, I wouldn't give them $15 / month. Fuck them.

can you imagine being incompetent enough to run your emu server from the US where the courts could fuck you over for life? Who would be dumb enough to do that shit?

the same type of people dumb enough to cut their fucking dicks off, maybe.

They aren't. Their public facing webpage may be. But you can do nothing from there other than send money to their crypto/paypal accounts. Everything related to using their points requires you to do so WITHIN THE GAME CLIENT.

If they can't tank Ascension (which is bigger) then TWOW has nothing to fear. They are just trying to get ahead of the Blizz Classic+ Gay version they are releasing next year.

That's it.

God damn, another classic plus not as good as the private versions? I bet they learned nothing from SoD

Yeah, if it’s not a US or EU country, no lawsuit will amount to anything other than showing desperation.
They might succeed at forcing TWOW and Epoch to move their websites somewhere. I concede on that.

So it will be a .ru or .shitbird or some other domain other than .org or .net.

I’m embarrassed for them if they consider that a win.

We will still be able to play both.

why? unlike daybreak, blizzard has always enforced their IP and has been suing everyone consistently this whole time, this is hardly the first law suit, just the most recent.

It's an arms race for sure and its what led to emu dev's hosting/running in countries that don't give a shit about US laws, which is why blizzard is now trying to have US ISPs block access, which will force us to use VPNs to play.
