This is why Marvel movies and Tv shows can never be up to their full potential. Because the term mutant is fully in Fox's control in a world literally designed around Mutants. Even Stan Lee said it when he came up for the idea of mutants "not everyone can be blasted with cosmic rays or build a suit or be a god." So he came up with mutants as a way to fill the world and tell more stories.

yet at the same time, mutants pretty much need to be in their own mini universe to stand as equal rights allegories.
In a world with spiderman, and mutants. It makes no sense at all, no one is calling spiderman a mutant, or Hulk, or anyone else, whose origins are not well known public knowledge.

I guess we really don't get to hear from the humans too much, so maybe they do call them mutants?


I think marvel is trying to start there new thing with the whole Inhuman shit. It sucks tho, I wish they weren't dumb enough to sell off all there franchises in the first place.

The Civil War storyline lumped mutants into a group with all people with superpowers and forced them to register with the government to ensure "security". That allegory is more pertinent today than the civil rights era mutant storylines.

yeah, but thats more of a general superpowers thing. not just mutants. Everyone was subject to that. Even people with tech superpowers like Ironman.


And yeah, seem to be trying it over again with Inhumans. A bit odd. Mutants civil rights in general have moved to a much more lgbt type allegory for the most part. which works much better in the shared universe.

but yeah, it was also a bit silly in the shared universe the public would look at Hulk standing next to lets say Cyclops, and go. omg hulk is a hero! and Cyclops. Filthy mutie! People Marvel U apparently have mutant radar.

same director which is odd, they should have just went with the same actor and did makeup. They took a character that isnt a big deal and made it possibly the most iconic scene out of all X-Men movies

That's really the problem, there's never going to be a better scene for Nightcrawler than that. In the mutant world he's not all that dangerous but against people (which he never has much of a reason to fight) he's pretty amazing. I mean hell, the plot may as well have been an excuse to do that scene, it was worth it.

Edit: One of the reasons the actor wasn't in the other movies was because of issues he had if I recall. Demanding too much money, being a bastard, something of the sort. Pretty unlikely they would try reaching out to him again a decade later when they get a free pass to use a new one.

Nightcrawler is pretty powerful, he can beat a lot of people by just porting them somewhere they can not escape. For instance he could take out the Hulk pretty much instantly.

He's not limited to earth bound teleporting.

Also his teleports work by bringing him into a side dimension then back out to whatever location he is aiming at. He is still able to put people indefinitely in that side dimension tho. I believe he took Kitty in there once when they were hiding.

It doesn't have to be the same actor. Nightcrawler wasn't cool because Cummings was a great actor. His talking scenes were more obligatory than anything.

And yeah, nightcrawler's ability to teleport is great vs other mutants. I'd put him squarely in the middle of the other Xmen in terms of capability. His teleportation is the kind of asymmetrical ability that you can use to make him immensely powerful or simply defeat with quick reflexes. Can Logan's (or any other xmen really) reaction time and sensory abilities detect and react to Nightcrawler's teleportation? Depends on the writer I suppose.

He was great in XMen 2 because his look and skillset was executed perfectly. Nightcrawler's whole thing is that he's this insidious looking nightmare who is jovial, kind hearted and pious.

The above pic of the night crawler makes him look like a confused hipster who fell into a vat of blue ink.
