This ironman campaign, I had a randomly generated Walter White clone in my crew that was promoted to heavy gunner. It couldn't have been more fitting having WW with the minigun and grenade launcher...

Now I just need a specialist Gus.

I made a Walter White when I got one that looked close. When he got his nickname I about spit on my monitor.

Ranger is Omar Little, Nickname is Rip N' Run. Made him as a joke, but main ranger got killed and Omar became a super bad ass.

There are already a decent amount of quality of life and other game enhancement mods that I like out there. This is one.

I like better tactical zoom out as well, it allows you to pull the camera back further to give you a better overview of the battlefield.

Evac All, which adds an...evac all button to the in game menu so you can evac multiple party members out at once without having to watch them each individually evac (something I found annoying and couldn't comprehend why this wasn't already in the game at launch tbh)

And Free Camera Rotation as well, which allows you to do a full 360 scroll of the camera, while still retaining the ability to swap between the various "Standard" camera positions as well.

I also like the look of the increased enemy squad size and more squad size upgrades mods.

Eh, all you have to do is tab away from the soldier and they vanish. The only evac animation you're forced to watch is the last one.

Jesus Christ, do I really have to download the 66gig development tools to write my own mods?

You're downloading the game in an uncompressed state so you can essentially make your own game with any or every asset from the base game. I'd take that over other companies saying: "The engine is too complex for the average person to mod. So you get nothing."

I'm familiar with the size of dev builds, I used to work at a game studio. I was just holding out hope that there would be some handy 'idiots guide to modding' program.

I want a complete overhaul mod in the freaking Warhammer 40 k Universe. Are complete overhaul mods possible ? The possibilities are endless, but Warhammer 40k mod would be the best of all.

Started a Legendary/IronMan game last night. Oh boy, took me 5 tries to just get through Gatecrasher (all four survived even, but two gravely wounded). Second mission was a pyrrhic victory, with 2 rookies dying and my 2 'vets' gravely wounded too. Mission three tonight will be with 4 rookies. AWC is definitely a priority this time.

I would love to see Firaxis team up with WotC and make a 5e game using this engine and turn based style.

Well yep, this would be perhaps the best thing to ever happen.

After having a fairly easy time on normal, I kicked into a Commander/Ironman campaign. First mission, I somehow missed a revealed square and fucked up the very first ambush - an omen of things to come. Second mission, VIP rescue, starts off fine. While moving into position to get the dude out of the van, I activate two pods of 1 sectoid/1 trooper who were hiding at either end of the van. No problem because I had a successful hack that disoriented them for 2 turns, and one of the sectoids just stood in no cover in the middle of the street. I had good position on them, they were fucked.

Then 'that's XCOM, baby' kicked in, I ended up missing a string 6 or 7 of 70%+ shots, long story short, one guy got killed, two guys captured because mind control/panic and I couldn't get them out in time, and the VIP barely makes it to the evac point, and he only made it because of a bunch of missed overwatch shots on his final mad dash to the chopper.

I've been playing XCOM for over 20 years and I am not sure I've ever had such a sustained run of shitty luck, heh.

TLDR; Quit your current playthrough and restart on ironman now, your love of this game depend on it.
maybe after they fixed all the bugs (ie teammate bleeding, you stabilize him, squadmates are unable to pick him up)
I'm playing on Commander and thats difficult enough already, thanks

Speaking of bleeding, I have yet to even see a soldier not be instantly killed. When the fuck do your soldiers stop dying so you can even use the stabilize feature of the medikits?

I think it's a factor of higher HP (from better armor/etc) - I've not seen it happen before Predator Armor myself. And rare there.

Yeah it seems odd. In Xcom it felt like you had a chance to stabalize your troops if they fall in combat unless they get massively overkilled. Here it seems like they just die off.
