My brother gets it regular (so did my late FIL) in both cases their diet was garbage. Neither will eat a vegetable unless it's a fried potato.God damn dude, people still get Gout? I thought that was like some revolutionary war shit.
Welcome to the club, I'm going on 13 years with it. I take 300mg of Allopurinol daily and it keeps me basically flareup free.My left foot started swelling on Sunday, by last night I was in screaming pain and couldn't walk. Hobbled to the doc-in-a-box this morning. Gout![]()
Don't think red meat is a problem, is it? I think it's usually from eating too much deli meat.Too much red meat and soda?
Fish/Shellfish, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Red meats, Pork, the range of what triggers gout changes per person. For me it was shellfish. I can't eat shrimp or crab or anymore. I was basically raised on shrimpDon't think red meat is a problem, is it? I think it's usually from eating too much deli meat.
Weight loss + dehydration can trigger it, yep. I was roofing when mine flared up the first time.Yeah i don't really fit the profile for foods, but part of it can be genetic. My grandfather had it but noone else in the family so i guess it skipped to me?For the last 3 months i've actually been eating good i guess. Been on the Factor delivery meals. I've lost 15lb and most of the meals are chicken. The only soda i drink is the occasional can with lunch if i need an afternoon boost. Otherwise it's water or iced tea. I haven't had a drink of alcohol in just over 2 years. (personal choice, i blaze every day) The trigger may be related to dehydration?
But seriously, it was screaming 3a pain thinking about what to do if you never walk again cause you're about to crawl downstairs to find a hacksaw kind of pain. Fuck me. The meds worked quick though, but 30 hours later i still have a little swelling and pain. Couple more days i gather until done.

was watching a youtuber talk about the decline of auto enthusiasts in the newer generations
this latest high school generation could have been the last to be able to buy a cheap 20 year old car and learn how to keep it going, but costs are too high and lifestyles have changed. once get to the late 2000's+ unavailable parts , evu/coded electronics and need for scan tools will make upkeep unaffordable. don't even know about a 20+ year old evs/hybrids.
they brought up clarkson's white goods comparison, but it really applies to most all modern cars. a lot of kids grew up in generic mini vans, suvs, crossovers, etc that had no real style that would start a love for autos.
that brought up, "what was your earliest memories of vehicles growing up?". these are 3 of the vehicles like we had when i was like 2-6. had to use ai to color the truck. it was about 4 inches higher in the back and had the spare tire mounted in front of the grill as it was built to haul a slide in camper. the nova looked and sounded great but always needed to be worked on. we had at least 3 bugs, but a white super beetle i remember the most. the others were cream, blue and a couple of older whites ones.

in the know your old dept, i never rode in any type of car seat and in one bug, was riding in mom's lap, got into a fender bender and broke my nose on the windshield. i have no memory of even using a seat belt as a kid. sounds crazy now, but around 7 up, we would take long drives and i would ride in the back of the truck. i had a plastic covered foam mat and a blanket. loved to look at the stars.

Some of my fondest memories are as a kid learning to work on cars from my grandfather. Still remember being painted black with grease up to my shoulders it felt like when I did an engine replace/rebuild for the 66 Mustang I had my senior year in high school. Now cars are deliberately built to thwart reparability , even by the "pros". Modern vehicles are built with this idea that anything that would require rebuilding an engine, transmission, etc is just a module replacement of the whole engine/transmission/whatever. It's sad, and probably won't change in our lifetimes. Designed obsolescence is essential to keeping the recurring revenue model all businesses strive for afloat. They NEED you needing to buy a new car every 4-5 years, preferably every 2-3 years. In the last few years, I've been buying older and older cars. So have all my friends. New shit sucks. Its too heavy, too complicated, too invasive, and too costly for what you get. I'd rather spend the same amount of money on something 10-50 years old that has style, substance, emotion, and a genuine experience.
Next purchase will be an air cooled 911 that I'll hot rod.
I have had a couple flare ups over time. It also runs in my family. It comes down to your bodies ability to filter and remove uric acid. If that builds up, and gets a chance, it crystalizes on bone structures and POOF gout. My doctors point at the fact that I have a lower than normal resting heart rate, combined with some kidney issues I have had. I get maybe one flare up a year. At least the treatment is pretty easy, at first sign take 2 of a little pill I have, then take 1 every 6 hours until gone. Almost always gone within 12-18 hours. For me it's always in my ankles.Yeah i don't really fit the profile for foods, but part of it can be genetic. Interesting question. I don't remember years, but my mom had an orange camaro for a while (probably late 70's, it was ugly on many levels but it was the first car I got to drive in the school parking lot), and later a Cadillac. She worked for a bank and she often got to drive around repos they were trying to sell. I think both of those were repos. My dad had an s10 blazer, an 84 bronco 2 (the only one I remember the year of, because I was actually old enough to work on it some) and a datsun.that brought up, "what was your earliest memories of vehicles growing up?".
I remember road trips in a old "conversion" van, that had little CRT televisions we could watch VHS tapes on.
And the screens were hilariously small, like a 6-8 inch screen mounted in the ceiling because they had to be CRT. I look back to pictures of people watching TV and they seem way too far from it for the size of the screen, but then you see how blurry TV was before 1999 or so and you understand why.I remember road trips in a old "conversion" van, that had little CRT televisions we could watch VHS tapes on.

just callI was reading the Politics thread just now. I thought of something important and profound to write. I said to myself “let me just finish this page and then I’ll post”. Well, fuck me, I forgot what I wanted to say. God damn it.
