Got some bullshit about signing in to make sure I'm not a bot. Yeah, no, I use Brave with not signing in for a reason. It went away after a few minutes, but that was weird.

lot of theories going around about them training ai for the last month or so. apparently if the ai thinks you are kid, based on viewing habits, it will turn on restricted mode. another theory, if not seeing channels that you watch new content as it is released, the algorithm only thinks you like a channel if you watch 2-3 vids in a row.
i know they did something as every time they fiddle with the algorithm, i start getting recommended vids that are 10-15 years old.

I watch all the YouTube ads I can get my hands on, because I'm a huge supporter of Israel. :emoji_nose:

I switched to ublock origin lite on Chrome since the original ublock origin got removed, and I still watch youtube with no ads on my computer?

Watching on my actual TV is so AIDS though, like 50 second commercials in 2 minute videos. Basically unwatchable.

If you can't sideload apps on your TV, buy a stick of some sort that you can, and put SmartTube on it. I couldn't survive without it, since I watch a ton of YT on my TV.

I watch hours of everquest and monster and memories lets plays on smart tube. Or cooking shit. Very relaxing. Plus side is the no ads means no irritating political or disturbing shit either. It actually locks in the shit I watch

I turned off my watch history specifically so that YouTube doesn't do recommendations anymore. Now I just login, watch my subscriptions, and I'm done. Saves me a lot of time :)

I would use a media PC if I had a TV.

As for weird algorithm stuff, youtube's next video is always colbert report for me. I have never willingly watched a colbert report in my life, and always immediately stop it. I could just turn off next video, but I have multiple times and it keeps deciding I really need to watch colbert report next and turns it back on every now and then. AIDs.

There should be something you can click on that says ignore this channel or don't recommend this channel or something. Probably behind the 3 dots when the video is on your main page or the side panel while watching a different video.

I don't like to provide social media any feedback at all. I've never subbed a channel, liked a video or anything similar on youtube. It's not a terribly huge deal for me. I only watch youtube now and then when I see how to fix something.

I finally bought a RasPi to make a PiHole, ads are getting out of control everywhere.

Hey, people really hate this, we should add more!

I have had a PiHole running for years to mostly help out the non PC devices on the network, but it doesn't really work on the big apps that use in app ads (like YouTube). In the case of streaming devices you will still need to sideload various ad blocking custom apps like SmartTube.

I've had an elderly family member already get "scammed" by a snake oil Facebook ad. It had a video of one of the conservative news network's hosts talking to RFK, except it was all AI generated bullshit, voices included (luckily it was flagged by the CC company and rejected). So I've tried to get all family to switch to Brave browser, on mobile devices, if they need to use Facebook and Instagram (delete the specific apps), as it seems to work well for those in-feed inserted ads.
