For Github click the [<> Code] tab and Releases are listed on the right, but you probably want to scroll down that tab to the readme for installation instructions. Clarifies which file to download and other dependencies.

I linked to the list of sites that yt-dlp supports but i believe you need yt-dlp, deno, ffmpeg, ffprobe in the same folder at bare minimum. Something like the Hitomi GUI versions are easier to grab and go if you are only looking for youtube rips.
ok I appreciate the help.

I know it's not cool to pay for things on the internet but if you have YouTube premium you can download anything you want.

wish could see all the channels/vids i have marked Not interested / Don't recommend, it has to be in the thousands at the point.

if you watch youtube on desktop/browser (not the app) from the Home/Recommend tab, always open a questionable vid in a new tab. if it sucks, can go back to original tab and block ni/dr it and don't forget to downvote it.

something else i have noticed, whenever they adjust the algorithm, i will see 2 big changes, bunch of vids with less than 100 views and super old shit, like 10+ years old appear on my home tab.
I do exactly this as well. I cannot understand why I'm getting at least one sub-100 view video for The Last Descendant in every single refresh of the home page. I have never watched a single video for that game, nor do I want to. I do watch gaming videos, like most of us probably do, but there has to be a massive push for that game from Google for some reason. I don't get it. I block/not interested/don't show channel on every single one of them, but there must be hundreds of those channels for some reason.

I recently installed a tampermonkey script I found on Reddit that is supposed to prevent any videos with less than 1000 views from showing up, but that doesn't fucking work either.

And the fucking shorts. No matter how many times I click the X it will come back in a couple of days. I get why they make it so hard for us to curate our own shit, because otherwise we wouldn't see all the bullshit they want us to see, but come on man.

Mentioned this a few pages back, but this is the extension I use on Brave to block shorts, I can't stand them so was worth it for me: Youtube-shorts block

I have the "hide shorts video (unstable)" option checked and seems stable for me, or maybe I've used it for so long that I'm numb to any instability. No shorts in my feed or side bar is great though.

My wife wants 'cable tv' so I'm already paying $83 fucking dollars a month to those assholes, I am not paying more to them. YT Premium should be part of it from the jump.

Yeah I sort of assumed it was. Seems like the least they could do. I did a 21 day trial of YT TV to watch the NFL playoffs a few weeks ago and I was not at all tempted to stay subscribed when the free trial was up.

whatever exhentai is, i don't want none of that evil
lol, well, it does work across various sites I suppose. The only thing I've ever changed in the settings is enabling dark mode, because default light mode should be a crime. Without changing anything though, if you download something off of Youtube, it'll save in the same directory as the .exe in a subfolder called, "hitomi_downloaded_youtube."

Like most people we were paying too much for cable, then we went to DirecTV to learn what true paying too much was like.

Then I proposed a streaming service and we initially tried a playstation service, don't recall the name. It's since been killed. But you could not fast forward through commercials. Yeah FUCK that. YTTV does at least let you do that unless it's a show clearly marked VOD.

Most of us have tons of disposable income. If I have to mess around with something for x amount of time to get it for free, and x is just too long of a time, I get lazy and throw money at the problem.

Yeah. I feel like $15 a month for the amount I watch YouTube is easily worth it, but there's a significant faction here that seems to believe not paying for internet content is some sort of principled stand. Personally I watch hours of YouTube a week and it's easily worth $15 a month to never see an ad and to not have to fuck with a bunch of sketchy software and go on message boards to try to figure out why it's not working.

While I'm sure there are some people, especially from our age group, that it feels "wrong" to pay for digital media, I think in this case it's also:
  • Still pushing shorts despite you knowing I don't click on them. And you won't let me block them.
  • Still don't have anything approaching a robust tag system that will let me filter different types of contents from one channel.
  • Frequently fuck with the UI in negative ways.
  • Recommend obscure channels and videos with barely any relevance to what I like and usually AI slop.
  • Doing a bunch of shady AI fuckery.
  • Removed visibility of thumbs down.
And this is coming from someone that pays for YouTube Premium. It makes giving them money feel conflicting.

They get worse, you pay more is the industry motto. We give them the finger, and use our brains instead.

Directly comparable to your favorite fast food options becoming worse while they cry inflation despite jacking up their operating profit margins. Stop giving them your money when they turn to shit.

Really? They should really sell that point harder since that makes me somewhat interested.

In addition to the above, it feels pretty shitty to me to pay a subscription fee to someone who didn't actually create any of the content (not to mention that they're actively hostile to a lot of the people doing the creating). Sure, they deserve a cut for running the platform, but I would feel a LOT better about paying them directly if I knew most of what I was paying was reasonably divvied up among the creators whose videos I watched. Maybe that actually happens, but like the above, if I'm not aware of it, it's not much of a selling point.
