My guess is it’s something to do with I’m watching american content with an american account but from a Japanese IP and so the ad servers are confused and don’t have anything to serve, but I honestly don’t know how that works.

I mean, there's not a country that has a "NO ADS ON YOUTUBE!!!" law - that'd be pretty ludicrous for a Western Country. But, some countries regulate ad content, some block YouTube entirely, and some have sanctions-related restrictions - which was my point by saying countries have passed laws against certain practices on YouTube.

I have YouTube premium in my US account, so I never saw adds on that. I used to see ads on my Japanese Gmail account, but now I have prime on that too for family reasons, so no ads on there now, too. Not sure why Cad Cad isn't seeing ads, he might just be lucky.

I’m enjoying watching my sailing channels on the TV that I usually have to watch on my computer so the ad blocker works… at home I get multiple minute long ads on a 12 minute video and a 20 second one to start, here it just starts playing and never stops. Don’t have premium obviously that would be one answer.

I’m just going to enjoy it for now because I’m sure it won’t last. AI didn’t know anything about why no ads in Japan either, it said basically enjoy it for now because they’ll fix it.

I haven't tried watching Youtube on my TV, but I literally never get ads on my computer. Firefox plus my Ublock setup and my OPNSense router kills just about everything.

JP is loaded with ads on Youtube. Usually 2-3 prerolls, one unskippable, and several midrolls. Using Brave eliminates them but it makes it a pain to watch Youtube on my work laptop where I have to use Chrome.

You probably aren't getting ads because the system knows you are US based but your IP is in Japan.

If I watch a YouTube video on my phone, as soon as the ad starts, all I have to do is swipe down to refresh the page and it goes right to the video.

I started getting Japan ads now on YouTube. Oh well, was fun while it lasted.

I get ads in spanish at work.

If even those 2 second 'FIND OUT WHY YOUR YOUTUBE IS BEING INTERRUPTED' annoy you, enable Experimental filters under uBlock origin's Filter Lists tab:

I use brave on mobile. It's very snappy. Youtube can play in the background. No idea about ad blocking, as I have premium.

oh brave is awesome for youtube on mobile, screen can turn off and audio still comes in like pseudo premium

Vivaldi just updated and removed my Ublock extension. Guess I'm going to have to look at alternatives.
