The Long Dark is another longtime EA game that I've had a ton of fun in. It also is something where you come back after 5-6 months and it's kind of like playing a new game. They're going to finally release their story mode so that will be a big new thing as well. It really all just depends on the specific title whether an EA game is good or shit. There's plenty of released games that don't measure up to some EA titles.

A game like The Long Dark does have a solid company behind it, though. Definitely be wary of some of these EA titles that have only a handful of people working on them.

Yeah, I plan on grabbing The Long Dark before this is over. Maybe The Forest and Stranded Deep as well. I kind of have a hard on for those survival games.

Any must buys on this sale? I am thinking maybe Dishonored 2 but not sure what's worth picking up.

Little nightmares is $14.99. Watched/listened to a stream I watch every week play it thru in about 4 hours last night. Not a bad game. Suprised me cause I thought it would be a dud but the ending was out of sight. Pretty basic gameplay.

I've heard good things about Dishonored 2 IF you can get it to run well, so people recommend trying to demo to see how it runs.

My list of top GOTY contenders from the past year or two:

  • Hollow Knight - difficult Metroid-ish game, not super linear or hand holding, amazing atmosphere and minimalist world building of a really cool world.
  • Hyper Light Drifter - People compare this to a Zelda game but those people are mental. It's an extremely combat focused top down game. There are some upgrades you can get but nothing really like Zelda. Combat is very fast and flashy and reliant on dashing around like a madman. Again, minimalist storytelling and amazing atmosphere (if you like pixel art)
  • Wolfentstein: The New Order - I liked this way way more than DOOM. The gameplay is super tight, the story is great, there's tons of hidden gems (like the German version of a Beatles album), and it's all on top of the age old staple of gaming, shooting Nazis
  • Oxenfree - I don't usually play "horror" games but Oxenfree was recommended enough and looked different enough to give a shot, and boy did it deliver. I would compare it with a game equivalent of "Stranger Things", it just has the dialogue, tone, and tension just right throughout. It's very creepy more than scary and the single complaint I could make is that there's no way to make the dialogue choices slow down, which does allow them to control the pacing but can be annoying from time to time if you get distracted.

You will have a fantastic time with all of those except the first one. Refund that immediately, thank me later, and buy Soma.

How do y'all like the Steam Link? The recent reviews show mixed and it looks bandwidth related, but I'm to the point where I don't want to be at my desk after work so couch + steam definitely sounds appealing.

Is it a bandwidth hog is the other curiosity

It streams the data between the Link and your PC, so it relies on a very fast intranet connection. You can do the same thing with basically any Windows device as well via Steam Streaming, the Link is just a dedicated box for it.

It doesn't use external bandwidth at all.

if you have a newer (2016+?) Samsung TV it has steam link as a built in app, don't need any device

It works really well using my hardwired PC -> router -> wifi steam link. Works less well doing wifi pc -> router -> wifi steam link.

When it first came out it was a bit wonky so I shelved it. I've just now re-set it up and it's working fantastically.

They even added higher bitrate options that weren't there when it launched and you had to do text file workarounds to get rid of latency issues.

It's a no brainier for 15 bucks, especially for any controller games you don't want to play at your desk.

If you have a hard connected for the steam link it's 100% worth it. If you are relying on wireless it's not.

The only issue I have is that the gamma is fucky. Dark games are super dark, and I haven't found a solution.
