Promoters sure know how to do their job.

I overheard a conversation about the fight today between two guys. Both followed neither boxing nor MMA and were talking about how McGregor is younger and has a longer reach and how Mayweather is old, was certainly very very good, but is probably not as good now... one of the guy thought McGregor would win and the other wondered if he would be able to not kick Mayweather (see above) and be sent to jail for assault. They also thought all the trash talking was a bit lame, and that the whole show around the fight was a bit over the top.... I did not butt in, but, guess what guys, it's because promoters are good that this event that, from a sport point of view is retarded, gets talked about by you and me, people who don't give much of a damn about the sport and that is that reach that will generate a silly amount of pay per view and a silly volume of bets. And you know what bookmakers like? People who bet on things they know nothing about.

It's a bit like poker and how it's in the benefit of good poker players to have as much bad players as possible entering the pool.
you just repeated the same conversation that was on ESPN when i was working out, they're just regurgitating what newscasters are flinging about.

Lord I forgot how comedic The Simpsons was. I've been all doped up on American Dad and Family Guy. So many subtleties! Thanks for this clinic bud.

Probably not. Last time I watched boxing willingly was when Roy Jones Jr was doing well. Floyd was probably still on his way up back then.

That's disappointing if true. But I'm going to watch anyway.
Roy Jones was a very entertaining boxer, not only because he threw fists like a madman, but he was also an entertainer in the ring with his antics.

Mayweather is simply the most defensive boxer we've probably ever seen. Technically sound, he BOXES, he doesn't FIGHT. It makes for very boring boxing based around winning points each round. Basically, the other boxer can never land a clean blow on Mayweather because of his awareness/defensive stance, Mayweather frustrates them because they can't land anything, he throws counterpunches and rarely ever engages offensively outside of that, and they're generally gassed by round 8-9 while Mayweather is still bouncing around. He was more aggressive in his "Pretty Boy" days.

Watch his fight vs. De La Hoya. Keep in mind, this is one of the best boxers of our time. You'll see how Floyd keeps Oscar at bay during the early rounds with most punches landing on the shoulders (great defense), and seizes control in the later rounds to win the bout. As much of a piece of shit he is, he's one of the best boxers I've personally ever seen.

For the record, I think Lomachenko is the best boxer pound for pound today.

I havne't been following this closely, but I feel like of all super fights I can remember this one has the highest shit-talk to actual animosity ratio.

I mean it's all this press shit is almost always highly staged for entertainment value, but this is extreme. It's amazing how much hype there is for this shitshow when there's GGG vs Canelo not long afterwards and that's a legit awesome matchup.

Canelo vs. GGG promises to be a much better bout.

I'm hoping Lomachenko and Rigondeaux fight soon. Guillermo is 36, he doesn't have much longer, even though I think Loma still wins even if both are in their primes.

Probably won't happen though.

Yeah that would be good, but you're probably right about it not happening.

Rigo's team won't let him, I imagine. Loma seemed pretty fired up about it, but it could've been all bullshit.

Rigo vs. Flores 2 should happen in November, so I'm hoping Rigo wins and calls out Loma.

The only way McGregor wins this fight is by DQ.

What are the realistic ways in which mayweather would get himself DQ'd? Can conor get in his head and make him keep punching after a break or something?

That sort of thing usually involved warnings and point deductions first so it would have to happen several times. Same with like low blows or punches to the back etc. He could of course pull a Tyson and bite the man or something too I guess.

Is mayweather known for pushing those rules? That's what I meant by the question.

No I don't think Mayweather will dirty up his pristine record with a DQ loss. I was just saying that's the only way Connor could potentially win the bout, something bizzare would have to happen.

Mayweather is actually very relaxed in the ring and has dealt with headbutting, rabbit punches, low blows and even kissing (fag Victor Ortiz got knocked out for his trouble) and reacted professionally. He never resorted to bitch tactics he simply further dominated his opponent.

It's usually Floyd getting in his opponents head.

It's either a Floyd W or no-contest imo, with a Floyd W being the 99% outcome.
