I guess that's my cue to inform people who have not seen Room or Short Stay 12 or her small part in Remember the Daze or even seen her in United States of Tara, that Brie Larson is, off the top of my head, in the Top 5 of the best actors/actresses in the MCU. She has without the shadow of a doubt the ability to deliver a great performance. If she did in this movie or not remains to be seen, but the potential is here.

People questioning her tone in the trailer - she says like 2 lines in the entire trailer, and its pretty clear those are early on in the movie. She shows up on earth confused, trying to figure out this place that seems familiar yet so far from what she now knows. By the end of the film she'll have a different tone. They wouldn't have hired her if she couldn't pull off a more bad a@@ side.

On a side note, I am not familiar with the character at all, but watching the trailer she kinda made me think about Haruhi Suzumiya, a character who can (unwillingly and unbeknownst to her in the case of Haruhi) change reality. Is something like that in her power set?

I wouldn't bet, but I remember a panel from a recent issue in which you had all kind of alternate Cpt. Marvels using... the Reality Infinity Stone to get in touch and coordinate on universal threats. So, altering reality is possible...

Looks incredibly mediocre. Obviously this is the first cut, but nothing grabbed me. Also her glowing blue power shit looked awful.

We were bound to get into heroes that translate well onto screen with their powers and she might be the first if she fucking shoot blue goo beams out of her hands.

Trailer looks decent, but pretty bad at communicating what the hell is going on.
Seems pretty clear to me?

Act 1: Superhuman crash lands in the 90s with amnesia, she and her powers are investigated by SHEILD/Nick Fury. Flashbacks to her past are revealed as an alien abductee genetically modified and working for the Kree faction led by Ronan in space.

Act 2: Skrulls invade Earth while she is figuring out her past/powers and her and Nick Fury encounter some of them. Maybe some tension as Nick Fury could think she may be a Skull herself.

Act 3 (not in trailer so I'm guessing): Skrulls and Kree are connected somehow (I don't read comics) and her ex-squad come to Earth to participate in the invasion (going for the Space Gem which SHEILD has?). Captain Marvel finally pieces together her past, knows her place amoungst humanity and changes to the red/blue costume to defeat them all.

Post Credits (still guessing): Goes into space on a journey of self discovery. With a pager.

It looks pretty decent to me, and I don't think Brie is a bad actress at all. She's certainly no Sansa/Jean Grey! I would have liked to see more action, but they are likely still doing CG on a bunch of it so that's kind of understandable. I wasn't blown away by it, but I certainly didn't hate it, and I'm a huge fanboi so I'll be there opening night, IMAX, as always. It can't be as bad as Black Panther, so it's got that going for it.

What they showed looked fine, for what it was; the trailer just lacked oomph (aside from Granny getting decked, I suppose). Need to show a little action next time.

Looked fine. I mean I may be more psyched about young Coulson and Fury than Captain Marvel herself. Mainly because I never really had much exposure to her in comics outside of her stuff in the Claremont X-Men era. Hopefully we get a bit more in the second trailer.

It depends on what point the character is in within her comics. Through most of the Comics, Carol has your typical Kree's powers amped up a little. The Kree as strong as Captain America, along with all the other benefits of "augmented evolution" (Immune to most toxins, heals quickly, not bullet proof but amazingly durable.) Because she's a woman, she also has some latent psychic powers, like Spidey Sense, that work more instinctively. She is a little different though, because she has a power unique to her.

I forget off hand where she got it but it allows her to absorb and release energy. She can only absorb "celestial" energy, which is a bullshit comic book way of differentiating between kinetic and heat/light/electricity. As she absorbs more energy, she gets stronger but she can't store the energy for too long. Effectively she is like economy superman, weaker, and can only stay amped up for a limited amount of time (To compare her to a current Marvel character, she is like like Iron Man normally, energy projection, about that level of strength, can fly pretty fast). However, the more energy she absorbs, the more powers she gets.

Eventually with enough of it she can change reality in some ways because she can alter gravity and bend space time, she essentially gets kind of cosmic powers (The shit Ego was using, I'm going to guess, in the movie). The problem is she can't achieve that normally without a very efficient power source, raw, random absorption is not efficient enough for her to get enough before she has to release it, even blasting her with some of the more powerful abilities isn't enough to give her that boost. However, at one point though in the comics she got some McGuffin which gave her unlimited power to draw from, and feed her powers, and she was essentially Superman++, not only super strong, faster than light, energy projecting, but also able to alter gravity and as said, warp space time.

I'm going to guess this movie is about that McGuffin, so they can show off her powers. Then she'll lose it as she did in the comics and go back down to essentially being somewhere between Iron man or Thor in powers. If they keep her at the McGuffin level, they'll ruin the universe. Because she's truly absurd, on about the same level of King Thor (Comic Version). Each Hero has their absurd version, Starks Nano-Tech Suit, and King Thor, for example, and they were nerfed to hell in the movies so I suspect her super version will eventually be nerfed as well to homogenize her. But we'll see.

Trailer looks bland origin story wrapped inside of "super ultra epic packaging", which made it feel off to me. The voice over and the look of the character just didn't jive well with the music, I think. She looks pretty wooden, too. I'm hoping that's just because she's playing it like Evans does Cap, and we didn't get the proper sound with the shots and so it felt off. Really hoping this goes well, I have liked Captain Marvel since the Xman episode where Rogue revealed where she got her powers from.

I hope ppl don't draw conclusions that Ms Marvel = Green Lantern

with them both being air force pilots
they both find powers accidentally
they both have a mentor (mar-vell/synestro)
they both join a team/corp (starforce/green lantern corps)
they both are the upper echelon of power (she has fought the sentry/he at times is a god)

I've never watched the Agents of SHIELD or any of the other MCU shows but did they ever do any table-setting to establish Carol Danvers before any of this? Aside from the post-creds scene in Infinity Wars, that is.

What a dumb list. Both being pilots is the only thing you couldn't say about 80% of super heroes
