Out of curiosity, for the people who hate combat.. how many of you have actually tried it? Obligatory.. Good job being useless to the conversation then; at least contribute some worthwhile criticism or GTFO.

Trying joining the PVP channel (/join pvp); that's how I found mine Also, I should probably note I was playing on a lower graphics settings to try to boost FPS.

Went two rounds of deathmatch on two separate claims. The first was 2v2 in a multi-floor manor on the side of a hill. This particular environment was really strange to PVP in because it had single-person corridors and small rooms, so it felt like I was constantly dashing forward and...

    EQN:Landmark Beta Starts March 26th!

While the combat still needs a lot of work, I think performance is the biggest thing keeping it down; you can't have FPS-style combat with 10 FPS and super fast moving players. It's way too chaotic and unpredictable. Hell, Planetside 2 is way slower than LM combat right now.

Apparently, if you step out of bounds for over 10 seconds you forfeit; with all the launchers and destructible environments, it would be fun to see floating battlegrounds, somewhat Smash Bros style, where you are trying to throw people off by pushing them onto launchers or destroying the ground...

Ahaha, this is the one game where that tired phrase doesn't actually apply, but sure. If anything, Landmark is still in Alpha; Beta is considered "feature complete", which Landmark is clearly not. They just promised Closed Beta by a certain time and had to abide by that to appease the people...

They stated in the latest Landmark Live that they are revamping the UI; to give it a non-genre specific look and make it more intuitive. The heroic movement is definitely staying, though I think they said that jumping/dodging will use stamina in the future. The player in the video has a belt...

    EQN:Landmark Beta Starts March 26th!

Yeah looks like they want to stop putting in new stuff for a bit and optimize; I think it's been a long time coming, but they needed something impressive for SOE Live, so they pushed it off.

Each base class having it's own health amount could still be a thing; I don't see why they would have to make everyone have the same health. Health definitely moves up/down a lot faster than before, but I could easily see if you're in warrior mode you have 200% base health, and if you're a...

Well.. something being "permanent" in itself is pretty artificial isn't it? Why should the destroyed Felwithe always stay destroyed, if players actively try to rebuild it? You say that the EQNext events will happen on a more grander scale, and less frequently.. which is how it should be, imo...

Final in-game content is the last thing to be developed in a game, after all the systems that support the game are created; it doesn't make sense to put in quests until their quest system is created. It doesn't make sense for them to add monsters until their combat and AI systems are complete...

    EQ Never

EQNext not having such huge ranges of "levels" should hopefully free the Emergent AI system to do whatever it wants, without having to worry about whether players can outlevel the content or not. The system they are proposing doesn't seem like it would work in a mostly static world/content...

It's a pretty neat concept, since it's like PVP without actually killing other players (though on a real PVP-server you could also kill the people who are helping the opposing faction).

Landmark won't get the EQN classes, races, lore, world, etc; it's just a high-level testbed for the systems that will go into EQNext. The combat in Landmark will have the core mechanics of the combat that we'll see in EQNext, and probably some abilities that mirror those we'll see in EQN (for...

The game allows for very complex techniques, yes, but you can still make a house out of Minecraft sized blocks if you want. No one is forcing you to learn these techniques; but yes, you might have a complex looking castle in your backyard that makes your block cabin look like shit.

Landmark's keynote kind of stole the thunder from EQNext with the combat reveal, imo; we are going to get to test out EQNext's combat systems in 2 weeks

Their biggest revelation (which was pretty evident, but they've confirmed it) is that all EQNext systems will pass through Landmark first, so if it's not in Landmark, it's not in EQNext. Aside from content (classes, lore, props), there isn't really a separate "game" for EQNext yet. EQNext is...

Assuming at least a couple of those classes are casters, it looks like they decided to go with the EQ2 style split robe instead of EQ/WoW full robe. I imagine it's a hell of a lot easier to animate and allows for more variety for casters but I'll miss the old EQ robes if that's the case :.(...

I'm curious how all of this is conveyed to the user, though; does loving peasant and loving guard have some sort of indicator to separate them from the orderly guard? Aside from them maybe being in close proximity to one another, how does it not just look like a ton of NPCs walking around and...

    EQN:Landmark Beta Starts March 26th!

If they're unveiling combat at SOE Live, I wonder how far they'll take it? They said they are adding in something they haven't talked about yet. Just taking a stab in the dark, but I wonder if they'll add in some combat classes (say the classic 4: rogue mage warrior cleric) and allow players...

Just because it's not copy/pasting the original EQ doesn't mean it can't target what people enjoyed about the game. Did people really love sitting in one spot for 6 hours waiting for an NPC to appear? Can you not get a similar sensation by running through randomly generated dungeons in search...

    EQ Never

Yeah, I did a bunch of chest-hunting when they first came out, looking for a Belt of the Zephyr, but never found one; since character wipes are happening anyways, it's not really worth spending the time.. but eventually, maybe Some of the more notable items you can only get from Treasure...

    EQ Never

Even though it's really early in development, I got a pretty distinct EQ feel from their Chest-spawning system. 1-2 chests randomly spawn in contested cave areas, every 12 hours or so. Going from cave to cave felt almost like checking spawn camps for monsters. And the chests themselves have...

Actual in-game EQ2 kerra looks like a human with a plastic cat-monkey mask on.. People actually like it? To each their own.. I personally hate the Chester Cheetah face, but am 100% on-board giving them feline legs with actual claws and a non-humanoid body/stance. The human models have slightly...

    EQN:Landmark Beta Starts March 26th!

It's already in Beta (though it's far from being "functionality complete"). The road map has specifics, but combat/health/dying system is going in for SOE Live among other things they are holding back for the reveal.

Been working on an open-air throne for the dark elf foundation competition; not quite done, but the competition ends today, so it's only going to be getting some additions to the approach today. Other than that, I don't really have the time. Anyways, this build is a little less "constructed"...

Chests are just sitting in caves but you might have more luck going to a cave that's rarely visited. Not 100% sure how spawning works yet, but I think there's a chest spawn in each "tile" of the cave and a cave can have up to 3 or so chests spawned at once (maybe based on number of tiles the...

Caves are pretty awesome, though they still need a little work. First one I tried out was an old forest cave and I was in there for a good 45m; they go pretty deep and have lots of spiraling resource nodes, but I didn't find any chests. Second cave I went in was a smaller ice biome cave...

FYI, I've been able to counter blue shells with the new horn blast item that you sometimes get in first place. Not sure if it was just a fluke, but if you can time it right it seems to destroy the blue shell. Pretty awesome addition, IMO, since it requires a good amount of luck and timing to...

Actually the founder's pick is pretty useful, since it counts as the highest tier axe; it can chop down any tree in the game, which you normally can't do until much later.
